I first want to say I promised when I was new here 4 years ago I would never leave everyone like so many before me did.  Well, guess they were right and life does happen and moves on until................we need help again.

I went well below my goal weight way less then a year after sugery.  Even my diabetis Dr. told me to put a little back on.  He understood the small stomach and easier said then done.  After I hit the 18 month mark I learned big time how to "cheat" my small, tiny stomach.  And cheat I did.  Being diabetic, (not since 6 months after surgery however) I have never given in to too much sugar or carbs because I was told I could easily be put back on meds if I over ate the sugar.  My doctor said I am still a diabetic but one controlling it with food and exercise.  Ok, at least with food.  lol.   I am now up 30 pounds.  So according to the doctors now I need to shed 20 to be great.

I never thought like so many others I would be in this situation but here I am.  I started a low calorie diet 10 days ago.  At first it was just as hard as it was before surgery.  Where is that tiny stomach the surgeon gave me 3 years ago?

I wanted and felt it important to let you all know that are sitting where I am and I know you are lurking just like I have and do.  The first week of low calories was just as bad as dieting in the old days.  Not only that but I didn't lose a single pound the first 4 days. But now 10 days later  I am still low calorie (lots of salads and lean cruisines) but finding it harder and harder to fini**** all.  I just realized that before 1200 calories was not near enough and for two days I can hardly hit 800.  So now I feel my tiny stomach again and I am planning on being better friends with it in the future.

Here is what I have about decided I have been doing wrong and maybe it will help others.  During the period of weight gain I was fixing my 3 meals aday.  I would put a normal serving size on the plate.  Never was able to eat it all at one sitting but snacking on it before the next meal time rolled around I found I could finish the plate and have dessert too.  Then I would find myself with snacks all day.

Now that I have limited myself to 3 meals and 3 snacks my tiny friend isn't thinking about food and when I do offer, she just doesn't want much.

If your trying to get rid of those few extra you put back on first come clean with yourself.  You know you wouldn't have gained if you really were watching your diet.  When your full take the rest and give it to your 4 legged furry friend or thats what garbage disposals are for.  Do not wrap and put in the fridge, trust me, it will never make it to lunch tomorrow.  Get rid of snacks that are high in carbs and make sure your other snacks take a few minutes of prep time.  Now when I go to the fridge, I think what do I want.  Well that will take 5 minutes and that will take 4 minutes.  By the time I think it through, I really wasn't hungry at all.

So results.  I am keeping very very faithful with fitday and thats the homework part of the "diet".  Tomorrow I will be 10 days into this under 1200 calorie diet and I am down over 6 pounds.  Doesn't sound like much in 10 days but I am only about 20 lbs now to my goal.  So maybe in 10 more days I will be down another 6 and then only 14 to goal.  See that makes it sound really sweet.  Watch the theraflu and vicks cough syrups.  I gained one pound over the past week end while sick in bed.  Come to find out those are 93 cal per serving times 6 a day I took.  Wow thats a bunch.

I hope this maybe can motivate someone else to start their journey in the right direction.  I lack motivation and lurked here for 2 months before jumping in.  I am excited now and feel like I have not lost control again but learning to adjust.

Hi Sherri, thank you so much for posting.  My surgery is next week and I read as much as I can from people like you that have walked the journey.  I'm sure you will get those last few pounds off!

I'm glad you came back to your support system and seem to be finding your way with food.  What I don't see in your post is any mention of exercise.  Do you exercise?

It really is the key to long term weight control.  Find an activity you like and make it a habit.  Once you build some muscle you can really live like a thin person eating pretty much whatever you want (with limits of course) because you are burining off the extra when you exercise.

Keep us posted on your progress!

I Sherri,I'

Thanks for posting.   I soooo know how you feel.  I'm on day one today of the 5 day pouch test.  Just liquids today.  I am struggling BIG TIME!!

It's reassuring to know other people are in the same boat....

I think you should be really proud of yourself with your low cal diet and with losing 6 pounds in 10 days.  This is realy awesome!  I hope I can say the same in a couple weeks.

All the best to you!

I am 2 1/2 years out and I was so sick the first year, that I don't remember much about the food plan.  I tend to graze and I have gained 20 lbs.  I know that I need to lose it or I could get totally out of control and I just can't go back to that place. My husband and son started the Visalus diet plan so this week I decided to join them.  Great tasting shake in the morning and at lunch.  Low carb and less than a gram of sugar.   Having 2 high protein snacks and sensible dinner.  Feeling better all ready and in charge of my food!!!  I'll keep you posted on my progress.
