PINK SLIPS???!!! What is a 11 month employee; why would that be better than just making you take furlough days like you have been doing? I will keep my fingers crossed for you; that is some scary stuff; I would need benadryl to sleep if I were you.
0800-1/2 ww english muffin, eggbeaters, veggie sausage
1130-egg salad on 1/2 sandwich thin, cup of soup
1430-apple, hummus, pita chips
1800-chicken, sweet potato, brocoli
I had a sf brownie during the morning as well. All my water and vits no exercise since it was such a long work day. The sun was out today, it was nice to see. The wind has blown in the clouds now. I loved the vision of kids dancing in the pouring down rain; what a nice memory.

We had 8 furlough days last year but we were able to sell back 6 vacation days. two days didn't help their budgets much but it messed ours up for sure. I'm not sure if we'll still have furlough days or not at this point..8 furlough days would have cost me $1200 but I did take advantage of selling back those vacation days.
The pink slips are adventagious to the the district..If they give us pink slips they have options. They can lay us off completely, they can lay SOME of us off or they can say unless we agree to become 11 month employees like the schools are, we're laid off..By law they have until May 15th to lay us off by June 30th so they give us pink slips. They are required by law to inform teachers of the same thing but by March 15th. They did it this year to them too but found a way to keep them (probably by giving US pink slips!)
The issue with that is, as an 11 month employee, we aren't allowed to *carry over* our vacation and we'll get paid out for it on June 30th. Some have a ton of vacation days and the tax on that big sum will be about 50%..we loose that money..some who don't have enough vacation days to cover that month off (like me and others) will have trouble making their mortgages for a month..
But the energy behind making us 11 month employees is flawed. They don't realize what we do while they aren't in the classrooms and schools...They'll have to stagger us being off for that month. So they don't save any money in shut down utilities or anything..just some wages. In my case it's about 7 days..because that's the difference in my vacation pay out and the number of days I would work in a month..In other employees they save nothing or it costs the district money..cuz people like me get 28 vacation days a year. If they pay us out for that June 30th and the employee hasn't taken the vacation days, it actually costs them 6 EXTRA days..it's crazy! Next year, I'll not take any vacation days and take that month off and go to Europe..screw them!
