Regained almost all my weight
I know how you feel. I had my RNY 3 yrs ago and have gained back about 20 lbs of the nearly 100 that I had lost. I am so mad at myself and I too have trouble with sweets. THey have never been a problem post surgery. I go for my year checkup with the NP next week and I'm anxious to see how my labs were. I'm going to see if they have any ideas about what to do to get the weight back off. I am eating too much but don't feel full that quickly. Scary! We all worked too hard to get it off - don't want to go back where I was :( Good luck with your re-progress!
Can't improve on Hala's advice. Back to basics. I haven't had the regain problem, I just can't lose the last 30-40 lbs. I'd like to lose. But...we soldier on and keep at it! Exercise is a big part of it, try to fit some into your day.
Good luck!

I had my rny in Dec 2002 and lost 140 pounds. Due to steroids and some poor eating choices I regained 90 of those pounds. Since last July I have been able to lose 65 pounds, so I have 25 to get to my goal weight again. I've been doing it by watching what I eat and exercising. I use a website called myfitnesspal.com to track my food and exercise. The main reason that I think I've been able to stick to it is because I found an accountability partner. She helps motivate me to get to the gym and exercise even when I don't feel like it.
You can do it if you set your mind to it! Wishing you the best of luck. If you can't find an accountability partner, just let me know.

Congrats to you! You should be very proud of getting that weight back off! As I have always known (pre and post-op) what to do to lose (aren't we all diet experts), but have always struggled with implementation, I am once again at the point of despair. I would like to keep coming back here for some help, if you ladies are all willing to listen to me whine a bit.
I do know a gal who also had RNY about a year before me - we are coworkers. She has regained all of her weight, I believe, and is pretty disgusted with herself as well. I would like for the two of us to work together and help each other, but I think she's shut down about it all. There was a little break the other day when she mentioned how we have both regained, and just doesn't know what to do either. I'm going to work on this, and hopefully we could partner up.
Thanks for responding here and supporting me. It's encouraging to know that you lost 65 pounds after regaining 90! I'm very impressed, Stephanie.

Quite a few people regain a substantial amount of their weight. Especially if they are food addicts. Not all foods will have a pull on you but for some of us moderation does NOT work..I can only speak for myself when I say that sugar is like crack and I can not allow it back in my diet. I treat it like alcohol..and do not allow it back into my diet at all.
If you do have a substance addiction, please see if you can find counseling..therapy can help..but also getting back to basics. The only deal with that is that right after surgery it's an extreme detox and it's hard to do later on..but then no one who has gone through this finds it the easy way out at all..it's far from easy and with this sort of addiction, detox is done without drugs or anything..And most people will offer you donuts and cookies *because just one can't hurt* but for me it does hurt!
Good luck to you!

Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Boy, you are so right about the food addiction thing. I literally cannot keep my hands off of sweets, chocolate, candy, and can't be around them at all. This is so hard because I work in an office where someone is always bringing in food, and the office kitchen is directly behind my desk. I think I offended a co-worker the other day. There had been an event she hosted for students (I work in a high school), and she attempted to leave a tray of cookies from the reception. I asked her to take them away and put them in one of the faculty rooms. She gave me a dirty look, but she did comply with my wishes. I guess I will just have to be honest with people and tell them it's like putting alcohol beside an alcoholic! With other foods, I can moderate myself, but not with sugar apparently. Breads are a weakness too.
Congrats on your success and on having the strength to not allow the sugar into your life. If you have other thoughts on this, please share with me. I will consider your suggestion about the therapy. I have never done this, but maybe it's time.

I give you a couple of the tricks that I use to stay clear of that sort of thing. Our office is always the repository of such things as DONUTS, CAKES, CANDY, COOKIES..
Donuts are easy, close the lid..don't look at them. If you close the lid you can't even smell them and they do smell.
You did good by making her take them away. Out of sight is out of mind..and then when you think you're gonna walk by them, walk out of your way to walk the other way! And remember there are sugar free jelly bellies..a couple of those in the flavor of butter popcorn and walk away and I'm good for another hour! And I take it hour by hour..plenty of water and walk away.
See if they can move your desk too..next to the kitchen is too close.

Boy do I ever relate to your post and I am so glad I found this thread and read the replies. I am having problems and have gained about 7 pounds. I got married two months ago and I am having a terrible time maintaining and keeping my momentum going. It seems to have flown out the window. Hopefully we an keep each other accountable. I come in here fairly often just for the support. PM me if you want. Would love to support each other.

I hope more folks here will post about this issue. I think it's something we all need to address and deal with, and unfortunately, I did not deal with it sooner. It's now become a huge problem, instead of one that could have been more easily controlled.
Doxie, you are where I was at 3 years out. I was feeling normal and good, happy with myself and my new life, and had this mistaken feeling of invincibility. That is when I started to gain a few pounds, but at first, I didn't pay enough attention, because I was too thin at my lowest weight anyway (for me!). People were telling me I looked gaunt and not healthy. When I regained those first few pounds, I actually looked much better, and still felt great. So I didn't do much to try to make the weight gain stop. Little by little over the past few years, it just kept creeping on, and I would make some half-hearted attempts to fix things, only to find out it was really hard to lose anything, and then I'd go back to my old, bad habits each time. I have never (pre or post-op) been a faithful exerciser. I truly do not like it in any form I have ever tried, yet I know that it is such an important component of keeping weight off.
All I can say is try to benefit from the knowledge of others' (mine especially) mistakes. Don't let this get away from you. I do believe that some regain is inevitable for most of us, as it is extremely hard to hang onto that lowest weight. But if I had just gotten hold of myself at the 10-pound regain point, and really focused my energies where they needed to be, I wouldn't be back at this point now.
Best wishes, and congrats on your marriage!

Well I'm gonna jump in with you guys and gat ahold of this regain too, I had RNY three years ago in September and I am fighting a 7 pound regain! I am almost obsessing over this because I do not want it to get out of control and i liked the weight I was at before the 7 lb gain. Iv'e been going back to basics and tracking but it doesn't seem to be going away yet! Iv'e been getting around 850 calories and adequite protein so I don't know if I need to up my calories or what! Maybe some of you have some advice that you can give me.
