Glad I found you
This is my first visit here and after reading through the posts I feel like belong.
I had RNY Dec 2008. Lost over 100 pounds and felt generally felt great.
last March I had a heart attack and stent put in. It was a major emotional blow - hard to describe the downward slide, I understand it is both chemical and emotional and I did take good care of myself with cardiac rehab, medication and support.
In late April (this is year anniversary) my mom was hospitalized and deteriorated quickly - after missed diagnosis it was ovarian cancer and she died May 10. She was 85, and quite at peace.
It sounds overdramatic, but being motherless is a club you know you join one day, but is really awful.
Through summer: husband lost job, got new temp one and has had steady but not secure employment since (he's 63). Son had hospitalization for drug abuse (25).
Around November I started gaining weight back - the lack of self care, the effects of surgery are minimized, the comfort of old habits...
And now I am up 30 pounds, clothes are too tight. My great summer linen (people gave me beautiful clothes) are in the closet and I haven't tried them on. I have good days and bad evenings.
So I am ready to sign on in with getting my act together, and accepting the advice and support of others here.
I am grateful to find you and be on this journey with others.

I'm so sorry you have been through so much. If I can do it, so can you! I'm losing the rest of the 90 pounds I put on from mainly steroids, but also some poor eating habits. I have about 25 more pounds to go. I went back to the basics. No eating and drinking at the same time and journaling my food and exercise. But what helped me the most was getting an accountability partner. She keeps me motivated when I am ready to give up. Feel free to contact me if you need additional support!

Welcome! I'm so sorry about the trials you've endured, and I completely understand the motherless feeling-I lost my mom at 63 to Alzheimer's--way too soon. I lost my dad in 2002 after he grieved himself to death one year after we lost my little brother at 22 in a motorcycle accident.
Life will continue to bless us and it will give us trials and tribulation. Never lose sight of how special you are and the fact that you are worth the attention it takes to plan proper meals and exercise. Some of us became obese because we always put others first--we must be somewhat selfish to maintain our renewed health.
You can definitely get back on track and lose those lbs. You know what to do--now get started. And you also know with heart disease that you must get that heart rate up and exercise (my husband and best friend both had stents within a week of each other two weeks before I had my gastric bypass!).
I wish you much success and if you need a shoulder, I am here for you!
