Bad lab results

So I am 8 years postop and had my labs done recently.  I just received a shock when I got a letter from my doctor saying they had been trying to reach me to discuss my results.  It showed multiple nutritional deficiencies:

Vitamin A 25.5 with normal range 32.5 to 78
Serum Iron level 24 with normal 50 to 160
Ferritin 4.0, iron stores, nornal 10 to 106
HgB 10.7 with normal 12 to 15
Vitamin B12 298 with normal over 500

No parathyroid hormone lab present which is indicator for potential bone mass loss.

Ok, so some of it isn't a shock.  I know I am anemic and I don't know if it makes much of a difference, but I was on my monthly cycle when labs were drawn.

I take my vitamins, evidently just not the right ones.  They told me what to take and I will make the change immediately.    I get a monthly B12 injection, I get it at my doctor's office.

Is anyone else out there post op and taking vitamins and still having deficienceis?

There are quite a few people who develop deficiencies after surgery..that's why regular labs are so important and why keeping track of your levels before they drop out of normal range is so important. Right now, I have Vitamin D that has dropped but is still within normal ranges..I'm watching everything so I can see trends before it gets below that range..

Hopefully you caught it all in time..Check with Vitalady and she can recommend vitamins that are easily absorbed by our WLS arranged insides..One that comes to mind is Tender Iron..awesome stuff! I was doubling up on my B-12 for a time but it turned up way too high so I quit taking so much..

Good luck to you.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Here is what they advised me to take:

Multivitamin 2 tablets per day at bedtime
Calcium citrate- brand name citrical plus 2 tablets or 500 mg after each meal.  Remember do not combine with iron or multivitamin.
B Complex- Super B, B100, or B50 1 tablet anytime
Vitamin B12 shot 1000 mcg each month or sublingual B12 1000 mcg once per week

Then because of my deficiencies:
60 mg gerrous gluconate or ferrous fumarate each day
vitamin A 10000 IU each day
Add sublingual vitamin B12 1000 mcg one time a week and continue with monthy B12 injection
