Hi Everyone. I havent been here in quite some time. Its been so long I had to create a new user name. I am almost 7 years out and have done fine weight loss wise but experience very bad anemia.

Has anyone else experienced this and to what level has it gotten. I let mine get really bad to the point it was making me imobile. I could not move for several days at a time.

I have a very hard time taking pills. Does anyone recommend anything special for iron and B12?

Thanks a bunch,

Christine

I have not had issues with anemia..but I do know that our Vitalady recommends Tender Iron..it's the best for us and easily absorbed and handled. I do know that iron supplements will bind me up to intolerable constipation so Tender Iron is the way to go with that.

Good luck.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

I am 8 years post op and also having problems with my anemia.  My serum iron level is 24 with a normal range of 32.5 to 78.  My ferritin or iron stores is 4.0 with normal of 10 to 106.  My HgB is 10.7 with normal of 12 to 15.  I was taking poly-iron, but they have switched me to 60mg of ferrous gluconate daily.  They are going to recheck my labs in 4 to 6 weeks.

My B12 is also low at 298 with normal over 500.  I now get the B12 injection every 2 weeks.

I hope this helps!

What has your doctor done for you so far? Do infusions help get your numbers up? After infusions most of us post ops take the highest dose of iron available to us (with Vitamin C for absorbtion) and get labs done regularly. If your B-12 is consistantly low do you get shots and take the sublinguals or just one or the other? Your doc should have you on a regiment that includes both if you need them. Let us know what you've been treated with so far.

I am almost 3 yrs out and started taking a ferrous fumerate tablet about a year ago because my iron levels were low, just had blood work and things are getting a lot better now. I take 2 sublingual b12 tablets each day (500 mcg each one and I buy them at walmart) and my b12 levels have always been great!

Hit goal weight of 140 at 13 months out from RNY!! 130 pounds GONE!

I'm 5 years out, and I have to get iron infusions. It stinks. I hope you find a better solution!
