Personal choice is the issue here, I had RNY because I knew after time passed I would eat around the band and wasn't comfortable with having a port. I know people who have done great with the band and some not so good. I also know people with the ds and very happy. The sleeve is another option. You just have to decide which is best for you and your lifestyle and have a doctor agree. There is no magic answer.

Personally I choose the sleeve which will be done onApril 6. Here are a few sites I used to help me make my decision, just in case you weren't already aware of them. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com. Lapbandtalk.com. And I believe there is also a bypass site. Good luck!

Here is a good book to read...
"Weight Loss Surgry..Finding the Thin Person Hiding Inside You" by Barbara Thompson,  now in its 4th printing edition.  It is considered to be the standard for patient information...for those pre op and post op and those trying to determine if WLS is for them.  She descripes all the types of surgeries, pros and cons for each...it might help you decide which is best for you.  She also helps you to know what questions to ask your doctor and how to work with your insurance company to get the surgery covered.  Over all, a very helpful and informative book.

PS  I had RNY, have lost 101lbs.  Considered the band (my sister had the band) but decided based on statistics, the RNY was a better choice for me.

Most people on these boards will swear their surgery is the best--and rightfully so!  Remember, this is an internet chat room--most of us on here are not doctors!

Research them all.  You must decide what is best for you--there are many successes and failures for every surgery.  The book, Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies is a great tool.

The key is that regardless of which one you choose, you go into it knowing it is just a tool--not a magic bullet.  You will be required to completely change your lifestyle--eating habits AND regular exercise--if you desire long term sustained weight control.

Best to you on your journey!
