Trying to gain a little weight after surgery.

Hi. I am 2 years out of surgery.  I had it done December 1, 2008.  I have lost a total of 175 lbs. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on just safely gaining about 15-20 lbs.  I am 5'8" and I weigh 150.  I feel too boney and not very healthy looking.  People tell me I look great but would look better with just a little more meat on my bones.  I thinking about getting back on protein shakes to see if that would help.  I wear a 9-10 in jeans and a small in shirts.  I just want to be able to fill out the 9-10 a little better and perhaps go up a size in my shirt because my shoulders and back are very boney and of course I lost my breasts :(.  If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.  Thank you.

My surgeon told me to *eat more.* which wasn't really helpful..You do some sort of exercise? That will add numbers to the scale and also give you muscle tone..healthier that way..

Also, to eat more: If you find you can't eat alot at one sitting, make it more sittings..Instead of three meals and no snacks, make it three meals and three snacks.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

I was a little too thin my second year out. I ate little high calorie nutritious snacks like dried fruit & nuts like train mix. Also peanut butter sandwiches on whole wheat bread for lunch.

I'm currently about the same size as you (5'8" 150) but my lowest was 135 for a minute which was way too thin for my frame. I had a breast lift w/ augmentation to take care of the no breast problem.

Reading posts here for years, most people regain a little weight and slowly creep up, so I really wouldn't worry about being a little too thin. It's easy to creep up the scales.

I would suggest wait until the year 3.  first 2 years - I had no problem kipping my weight off. I had problem eating enough and not losing anymore.
But app 2.5 years post op - I have no changed what I eat, or rather I had to eliminate most carbs due to Reactive Htpoglycemia. I keep my protein hig, my carbs and calories down and I can see my weight increasinga nd my body shape changing.  - Suddenly I have a butt.

So - try to hold it for a while...I am glad I did when my doc told me to do that.  There is probability you may regain 10-15 % without trying in the next year.

I'm glad you reached out because I definately needed to know that.  I decided not to really change anything except increase my strength training to gain some muscle.  I hope I get a butt back lol.  Thank you again for the great info.  I will definately wait.

Hello There,

I agree with Hala, I am almost 4 years out this June 1, 2011 and I struggle to keep my weight down.  Yes it is possible for the Demons to come back and bite you.... I gained back some weight which Im happy with since like you at my smallest two years out was 130, I felt really boney where before was very curvey with a butt and boobs at 285lbs pre op.  Two years out lost it all and did feel great but felt really tiny.  I am 5'1" and now Im 150 with about 10lbs of skin still connected and dragging around with me and feel better in my skin but had to loose about 15 lbs this past two months cause I was able to eat more foods at higher calories.  It was NO Bueno!  I had to jump back on the wagon.  Keep on doing what your doing and enjoy it while you have it cause you do get complacent and confortable with eating as time goes on.  I still have to remind myself everyday I can gain it back if I let it happen.  Take Care
