omega 3's

Does anyone know about the absorption of omega-3's.  With our re-routed GI tract it is hard for our bodies to absorb sugars and some fats.  If we are taking omega-3 capsules...is there really a point?  Can we even absorb them properly?

I just recently added amega-3's to my regimine and this occurred to me.  I am battling a bit of postpartum depression, add trying to avoid prescrips for that but also read somewhere that taking omega-3's help with depression.  I figured it could not hurt to try it but then thought...is it futile?

I just started omega-3's also. Didn't even think how I'd absorb it. Was put on it for fibromyalgia & my heart problem.
Will be interesting to see if anyone has a answer to this. I'm sure we must absorb some which is better than none.
Take care,
Kathy

Check to make sure it doesn't have enteric coating..that makes it nearly impossible for RNY patients to absorb cuz it's designed to digest in the upper intestines where we have precious little..
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

I have been taking omega-3 (in the form of a fish oil pill) for years.  I had Gastric Bypass a year ago and my doctor told me there was no need to stop taking it.  I have also recently added an omega-6 ( in the form of primrose oil) this is great for your hair and skin.  I find that both omega 3 and omega 6 are still benificial even after the bypass surgery and would recommend them to any one.
