Hi Candy,  I tried the 5 day pouch test to find out what foods were bothering me.  (lost a few pounds, that was a bonus, not my intention).  I read alot about it before I started.  It gets you back how we used to eat in the weeks after surgery.  I know that people say that the first two days are the hardest, but I really didn't think so.  I did Monday-Friday, so I would be working.  Just plan all five days on Sunday.  I stuck to it for the most part, few changes.  I think drinking 64-80 ounces of water day helped alot!  Now, I'm not sure if my pouch shrank..I can't really tell, but eating less carbs helped, my stomach doesn't bother me.  Good luck, keep in touch...Stella

I would suggest doing the 5dpt and then continue day 5 foryour lifetime.  Me personally, I've been on a roller coaster for the past 2 years with the reactive hypo/hyperglycemia thing.  My doctor had me "challenging my pancreas" and all it's done is help me regain 30 lbs of fluid, mild congestive heart failure with high blood presure and stomach ailments galore.  My RNY surgeon was not the least bit helpful when I developed the blood sugar issue so my primary did the best he could.  Sent me to an endocrinologist this past week who set me straight I think:-)   Upon her suggestion I did the 5dpt and then she told me about the University of Minn. reccomendation of eating only protein, real fruit and veggies (more veggy than fruit).  No grains, corn, rice, dairy, etc  At first I thought how restrictive it all would be but it's back to the basics for sure.  I started this just Saturday, already I feel so much better. My belly has settled down, my blood sugars are stable, I've lost 10 lbs of fluid and the blood pressure is stable as well.  So this is my gameplan for the rest of my life I've decided.  I hope that you are able to find an eating plan that works for you too:-)

that is the link for the reccomended diet from the Uni of Minn for hypoglycemic RNY folks...

This is the link I found for the 5dpt (5 day pouch test)

Basically for two days with this?  You consume only liquids.  I do low carb soy protein shakes, SF pops, anything liquid and sf/carb-free.  On day 3 you add in soft proteins such as eggs...........the website gives you some examples.  Soups are allowable and they offer a few recipes.  Day 4 is firm protein such as dark meat chicken and fish...then day 5 and the rest of your life is firm protein, natural carbs.  Which is exactly what the Unniversity of Minn. hypoglycemic reccomended diet is.  Just straight protein, healthy fats and natural carbs.  More veggie than fruit.

My primary doctor has been telling me for 2-3 years now to "challenge my pancreas" but eating wheat, rice, etc.  And my blood sugar incidents got worse and worse.  About a month ago I was fumbling in my purse for my monitor, never occured to me to pull over and the rest is a blur.  My son thankfully was driving in the oposite direction and saw me stopped at a red light, cars blowing their horns and pulling around me.  I kept my foot on the brake and let him in the car, again I remember none of this.  He got two glucose tabs into me and checked my blood sugar, by then it was 41.  Endocrinologist says I had a "seizure"....anyways, I was not safe to drive at this point.  My primary sent me to the endo who said do this diet, she ordered me a pill to stop my blood sugars from crashing called acarbose and suggested I clean out my system using the 5dpt.  So far I feel great, I've lost 12 lbs of fluid....seems to have me back on track:-)  Hope this helps:-)
