im 10 yrs post op and never had any problems until now.  Recently I have become bloated in my upper abdominal area sometime and i feel  soreness in my upper left abdomen and sometimes it alomost feels like my gut is "twisted". I had open RNY...could it be related to my gastric bypass surgery 10 yrs ago? Adheasions or a hernia perhaps..what is everyones thoughts..

My thought is call your doctor--yesterday.  Any abdominal troubles should be explored immediately once we've had WLS.

I wish you the best.

I agree with Kim...call your doctor.  Any major change should be checked out...sooner rather than later. Even if it turns out to be 'nothing'...peace of mind is alway better than being sick with worry ;-)  Call Today!
and then let us know...we all might learn something ^_^
Thinking good thoughts for you ^_^

i concur with other posts. being 10 years out also i would be curious to any long-term issues we might be facing. feel better soon and please let me know what you learn. hopefully it's just a pulled muscle or something minor.

Adhesion's and scar tissue, you just described me and I had emergency surgery in July.
Go see the doctor and by the way you don't have to use your bariatric surgeon to have this surgery. Good luck and I know how you feel with this pain.

Each time they open me up it's more adhesion's. I will have to have another surgery for adhesion's again in the future. Stay on top of your health. Debbiejean

Hey Debbiejean, How did they diagnose you has having scar tissue? Do they do xray, some kind of scan or test?

MRI...it will show adhesion's and scar tissue. Mine were multiple adhesion's.
Don't let my post scare you too much. This is my 7th abdominal surgery...and each time they open me up I get even more adhesion's. It's a vicious cycle for me. Every 5-6 years I have to go into surgery to get cleaned out. Only my last one was only 3 1/2 year out from my revision to RNY. Yepper, I had lots of adhesion's. Surgeon's hate adhesion's!

What happened to me in July was like the most pain ever, first I didn't know if I had a "dumping syndrome" and I waited, after 2 hours of pain I said to hell with it and went to the ER.

It could be a bowel obstruction due to adhesions.  I am ten years out and had one bowel obstruction in 06 and a partial bowel obstruction in January of this year.  One way I try to keep from having obstructions is to take two stool softeners nightly before bedtime.  When I started getting off of them, is when I had the first obstruction.  I almost died and I will never go through that again.  Please get the hospital to give you the 'gastric gravel' liquid to swallow and take x-rays to see if there is any obstruction.  This could be very serious!
