I have NEVER been so UNHEALTHY help!
I am getting the flu/cold (whatever) for the 3rd time this winter.. Is anyone else finding they have NO IMMUNE system?? I CANNOT beleive how sick I get every time.. I am a tough woman.. I am being totally wiped out by these bouts.. anyone else.

Check you vit D and B12. If they are low - that may increase the risk for URI (upper respiratory infections)

Aloha- Not sure if this will help-
I was sleeved in June 2008, this is the first time since that surgery that I have had a cold - but all 3 of my family members had it. I also flew on 6 different airline flights in a 2 week period- that is the kiss of death for me usually, sharing dry recycled air with hundreds of other passengers.
I do attribute the good immunity of the past 2.5+ years to 2 things:
1- Adequate protein intake- not sure if your gout or your RNY is preventing you from maintaining a healthy protein intake, but the average size person should be taking in at least 70 g protein/day ( more if you malabsorb from RNY or DS surgery), and those with gout should are supposed to avoid animal protein sources. You can still get your protein from vegetable sources ( eg quinoa, edamame, tofu, nuts and seeds) and dairy based ( eg Greek yogurt, whey). Without adequate protein intake, your immune system may be compromised ( protein is your foundation for immunoglobulins= antibodies). No matter what, I try to ensure 125g+ protein/day intake since I strength train ( and without the protein intake, there's no way a menopausal woman like me can build muscle! This might be part of your issue, especially with your notation even if I am not eating as well as a should (due to gout issues etc).
2- I switched from soft contact lenses to hard contacts after being diagnosed with a corneal problem a few years ago- I can't rub my eyes with hard lenses, too uncomfortable and they pop out unexpectedly. I used to rub them all the time wioth soft lenses. This is a very common portal of entry for viruses and other bad juju to gain access to your body ( hand to mucus membrane contact) - I do feel it's made a difference. I agree with the other poster - you should try to wash your hands frequently, even carry a small bottle of sani wipe fluid with you and wipe down communal items at work ( phone, computer keyboard/mouse, fridge door handle, etc).
