plateau from hell

I'm so frustrated and I need to vent.  I have done everything exactly according to instruction by my doc.  Eating an averag of 1400 calories a day
Getting in an average of 75 grams of protein a day
Drinking a gallon of fluid a day
Exercising 3-5 times a week
No sugar, virtually no simple carbohydrates
Zig zagging my diet and exercise routines to try to break the plateau
Protein loading

The scales have not moved in six weeks.  I don't see how that's possible.  I do the math and it sys that the pounds should be melting off.

My body is reshaping.  I can cross my legs without even thinking about it.  I feel good in my skin and I'm wearing smaller jeans.  Even with all of this, the scales stare back at me with the same number everu day.

I need some support.  I'm working as hard as I can and the evil scales are haunting me.

Weight loss surgery has saved my life and I would recommend it to anyone who has the strength to dedicate themselves to the challenging WLS lifestyle.  This is not the "easy way out."  It's the hardest way out.  "Easy" would have been to do nothing.

Measure yourself.  Your shape is changing (as you noticed) you might be very surprised at the difference in your measurements.  I was stuck like you for about the same time.  I would only lose weight every 5/6 weeks.  But it did eventually come off.  Keep strong.

I second the motion of measuring yourself - it's a huge motivator for me! Even though my scale doesn't move much (and lately in the wrong direction!) it's always gratifying to see my measurements change. At my most recent measure, I've lost 75" inches total from around my body.

When I was losing my weight after surgery I got stuck at 200 pounds for about a month! I was a crazy, depressed person! It was truly the most difficult time during the whole post-op, weight loss process. Eventually the scale started moving again and in about 2 1/2 months I was down to 170. Eventually my weight went from my original 250 down to around 137. Hope this helps. You are doing fine!

I found that once I got below 125 pounds that the number on the scale didn't tell me what was going on. I've been 118 and had my pants all be tight. I've been 120 and can feel my hip bones. At this point, I look at body fat % and lean muscle mass and ignore what the scale says.

I have a friend in our local wls group that had similar issues as you. She went and had a basal metabolic rate test ( the one that tells you how many calories you body needs to function-maintain.) Her rate was about 820 calories a day. So maybe you should find out what your body needs. I know of some other women in our group that say 1200 calories is the cut off for them. So maybe 1400 is too high for you to lose, but with all of your exercise you are at least maintaining, or growing stronger in the process. I think eventually you will lose more as your leaner body will burn more calories overall. I do understand the frustration as I have found that I need a whole lot less calories to maintain and thus ANY deviation from the "plan" results in instant weight gain for me.

Personally, I would say that you are doing great! Don't give up, keep up your routine cause 9 times out of 10 the reason the scales probably not moving is because you are gaining muscle mass from working out. Muscle weighs more than fat, so definitely forget about the scale and check your measurements you may even be more comfortable going to the doctor and getting a muscle vs. body fat test just to prove that you are infact making progress.
