Long, but worth reading

Some of you might remember me. But for those who dont I will recap. I am 32 years old. Had GPS in 2003. HW was 300, LW 180, CW 232. When I got down to 180 I had polastic surgery to get rid of skin, implants, etc. Previosly when I got back to 230 or so in 2007 I decided to do something about it. I LOST 32 LBS IN 2 MONTHS. Low carb, protein bars, drinking water, working out, etc. Felt great....

... Then on my bday during those two months I had bday cake and it went downhill from there. Birthday cake turned into a birthday "weekend" of sweets bc its' my birthday damnit! So I shot up to 240. Ugh - not again. Bc I was so comfortable at around 198 I always said, next monday, etc etc. That never came...

Here I am 3 years later struggling. Sometimes I forget that I had GPS. GPS is supposed to work right? So when I am eating my meal and then sip on water an diet coke and eat some more, that's just me, right? WHAT surgery?

Sometimes I think a low carb lifestyle is too unrealistic. It's all about portion control, right? Or a combo, or what? There's just so many ways to get back on track. No snacking, snacking. Low carbs, low glycemic carbs. No sweets, once a week treat. Drink with meals, or not.

I want to hear from those who have lost regained weight and found their way SUCCESSUL for them and was a lifestyle. Do you drink with meals, do you feel after many years that you can eat less?

... as a side note, i was a hard core Starbucks addict since 2004. I mean, ever day, two times a day. For about 4 weeks, I have cut them out and started drinking Shakeology, which is a nutritious shake meal replacement. Only thing is that one full scoop is 17 grams of carbs. Now, I do half a scoop bc that is pretty sufficient, so half of 17 - 8.5 grams. So far so good. I've lost 10 lbs in a month but can lose it faster.

I am a sugar addict too. I can't stop once I start so I've stayed off of it and completely away from it..

I don't have to portion control much. I eat from 1400 to 2000 calories each day but I stay away from the white carbs..no sugar, no bread (or very little), no pasta (or very little) and no rice..

I don't drink with meals. I haven't since surgery in 2006..I don't drink protein shakes but I do occasionally cook with protein powder..I don't drink diet coke (or any other carbonated beverage)..I snack all day long. I eat 5 or 6 meals a day..
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

I shoot for just less than the protein that I take in but when I get alittle high on carbs I check the list of items and make sure it was good carbs and not white.

Today was alittle high (130) cuz we had a birthday party and I had some breaded chicken tenders and some chinese veggies mixed with noodles..but for the most part over 50 grams of the carbs I got today were from veggies and fruits..

Hi, I am a carb addict and I also developed Reactive Hypoglycemia(RH) post op RNY.
With RH - when i eat carbs, eventually my Blood sugar would drop, so I get very hungry, lightheaded, need to eat carbs to bring it back.( my sugar will drop to low 30 or even high 20's - that is very low... danger of passing out or getting seizures..- not good).
Even If my sugar drops not that low- but to 50's or 60's - I get really hungry and eat and eat and eat. Mostly I would crave carbs.

So I decided to gave up most carbs that does affect my blood sugar: most starchy carbs, grains, starchy veggies, sweet fruits, etc.  I try to eat proteins + non starchy veggies.  Plus some fat.  that keeps my blood sugar stable, and also allows me to stay on track. when i do not eat a lot of carbs - I do not crave them.  We do not need carbs from grains or starchy veggies. the carbs in some fruits, veggies are plenty for our brain to work with. Also - our liver is capable to convert proteins into glucose for the brain to work..

I do eat some starchy carbs - but ONLY when i have proteins and fat with them (i.e. cheese+ crackers, flat-out wrap, etc.) but even then - I limit the carbs to less than 20 gr per serving.. with at least double the amount of proteins.
That means that I can have a few crackers, a few chips. Piece (small) of chocolate (no less than 75% dark), etc. Fruits - berries does not affect my blood sugar level.  I can eat a cup of berries (with some whip cream...yummy) and be fine.

decarbing is the issue.  But now - I do not even crave the carbs.  When my friends eat bread, or dessert - I very seldom tempted.  And when i am- I remind myself why do I stay away from that.
The other day I got a piece of bread.  A small one... surprisingly it smelled better than it tasted. I chew it for a while and then... had to spit it... it just was not that good to try to get it down. (BTW - I do not chew and spit - but when i bite into something and it is not OK - I choose to get rid of it... )
My body is most stable when i do not get more than 50 gr of net carbs (I do not count fiber). I also avoid splenda, and sugar alcohols.
There is allow carb /Atkins group on OH for some of us who are more sensitive - addicted to carbs. Look for it.

My RNY was in 2005, had 2 precious little girls, ages 3 & 1 now.
I was 138 lbs when I got pregnant with my first, 140 with my 2nd.  I am now 160 - I just can't lose any weight.

I'm a sugar addict & I need help stopping!!

I hate myself for it and feel like I'm starting to give up, depressed I guess.

I go for walks almost every night, but they are only around the block (little feet and legs can't go far)

I also know if I keep up sucking down the Starbucks and eating crappy I'm going to wind up with diabetes again and I know I'm just going to keep putting on weight.

I'm not sure why I am typing this - I haven't admitted it to anyone, I just kick myself in the butt in private....
Thanks for letting me get this off my chest.
