I'm 14 months out from RNY and have reached my goal weight of 145. The last 2 weeks I've felt pretty bad. It started with 3 fainting episodes in 2 days. Since then I've felt shaky, muscle jerks, brain fogginess & word difficulty, dizzy, head discomfort, heart palpitations. I was hospitalized and had head C.T., brain and neck MRI, carotid ultrasound, EEG, blood work. All okay. I eat 60-70mg of protein, drink 60 oz of water. I stay away from junky food. I'm on a cardiac monitor. Where should I look now? I was type 2 diabetic before RNY
Any suggestions?????
Thanks
Annie

Annie,
Did they check your vitamin levels when they did your labwork?  Especially vit D OH, thiamine and B12?  Extremely low levels of some vitamins can cause some of your symtoms.
Good Luck..

Do you drink diet pop? The aspartame can cause those same side effects as you had mentioned. So does low blood sugar. Your doctor should be able to find the problem through some blood work. Good luck hope your feeling better soon.

Thanks for your response. I don't drink diet soda or reg. soda. I think it is low blood sugar but no rhyme or reason that I can see. I'm keeping track of my diet, blood sugars & blood pressure.

Does this happen when you eat certain foods like carbs? Bread, pasta, even sugar free stuff?

Give reactive hypoglycemia a try..I was type 2 diabetic before surgery and now I have RH..
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Before Surgery: 214
Highest Weight: 240
Now: 125.6
Goal: 130

Hi Dawn,
Thanks for your reply. I haven't noticed any offending foods. I keep a food log and am now tracking blood  glucose & blood pressure.
I too was type 2 before surgery.
How do you manage RH?

I stay completely clear of refined sugar and white carbs and make sure that I eat a protein with any carbs that lean in that direction. It works for me. I had to increase my carbs recently due to a gallbladder incident but I'm always pairing it with something that's more difficult to digest..

Just happened to see your post and had to reply. About a year ago I started having the same symptoms. I too thought it was low blood suger, so went to my doctor. It turned out to be anxiety attacks. Im now on a low dose anti anxiety medication. You might mention that to your doctor. I never knew when they were going to strike, and was sure it was a low blood sugar attack. Doctor said symptoms are similar.

Just sharing.
Blessings
