5 DPT Question

Hi.  I'm 3 years out and trying to get back on track.  I started the 5 Day Pouch Test today, but I have a question regarding the program.  Does anyone know if you are allowed to have vegetables with your protein after you complete the liquid only days?  The program only mentions the proteins that you are supposed to have so I wasn't sure and really want to do it right.

I believe so..I think the only thing you need to watch and limit would be the starches or bread/pasta/rice..what I like to call white carbs..

I think it's a shrunk down version of the post surgery diet. Meaning day one is liquids only, then soft foods, then slightly more lumpy foods, then less soft proteins and then proteins. I would add raw veggies at day 5. cooked, or soft veggies and fruits on day 4..

At least this is my take on it. Someone else probably has another opinion.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Thanks.  I've just about made it through day one and it's been a little tough, but it looks like I'll make it.  I let my weight slip for far too long and it's time I take control and turn the tide.

I did the 5-day pouch test last week and it was really great for me!  The first 2 days with liquids only were not as bad as I expected.  I did not eat any vegetables during the 5 days, but I did eat some after the test was over.  I lost 9 lbs. last week while doing the test!   And this week my carb cravings are WAY down.  Plus it reminded me how to feel my pouch and know when I 'm full and avoid eating things that make me feel sick.  Good luck!

Hi Stephen, I noticed your post... I am on day 2 of 5DPT... not as bad as I thought it would be.
Just curious how you were doing with it.... I am in the same boat, need to get back in control

Hi Lisa,  I'm doing OK.  Can't say that it is easier than I thought, but still sticking to it.  I think this evening could be a bit tougher not that I have had solid food.  I'm finding myself wanting more.  I will say that seeing the results on the scale this morning does help give me some motivation though.

How's it going for you?

I want to start it on Sat.  Can you have any kind of cream soups?  Do you use 1% milk or skim to make the protein drinks?  You are right, dont see any mention of vegetables, I wasnt planning on eating any.  Last time I tried this I didnt make it past day one :(

Not sure about the cream soups, but I believe that you can use the 1% milk.  I used water in the shakes and only had beef broth for a soup option.  I was trying to keep my calories as low as posible and still take in 75-80 grams of protein.  I won't tell you that it has been easy, but the good thing is that you only have to do 2 days of shakes and you keep changing your food for the rest of the five days.

Thank you.  I am going to start on Saturday so when I go to work Monday I will be eating something so I won't be a beast at work!
