IRON question....

hi. my name is ginny. i had RNY with siliastic ring 7 years ago, and dropped 200 pounds in one year. I have kept it all  off due to stoma stenosis and ulcers, and not being able to eat very well to this day.

my question is....
I have anemia....borderline low iron, low ferritin.  I have been on vitronC for years, and it is not doing much.

i have decided to start taking the vitalady tender iron, 25mg pills. i have heard good things about it.
however, i see that you have to take 6-8 pills a day. (and can chew them, thank god!!)
how do i take these pills? i know to take them with vitamin c...but how many do i/should i take at once? should i take 4  with vitamin c in the am, then 4 more with c in pm....or take all 8 at once?
what is better for absorption? how much iron can our bodies absorb at one time?

thanks so much in advance :-)

I'm not vitalady but I was thinking there must be a limit to what you can absorb at a time so I would take two and then two at lunch and then two with a snack and two with dinner..I'm sure if you do a search for vitalady, you can get a message right to her..

Good luck! I know that iron monster is tough to fight..
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Ask vitalady.  She can advice you on how to take it. Or ask Andrea U.

I was also just diagnosed with anemia and now have to take prescription iron 3 x a day. Have you talked to your dr about taking any other kind of iron? Congrats on the 7 years by the way. I am 5 years post op. I also had RNY with the silastic ring, but after a couple years had it removed as it erupted and caused my intestines to ulcerate. I don't think they are using that ring anymore.

I take 12 (300mg) with vit C and copper, at the same time, but not in one gulp, of course. You can chew 6 with C, chew 6 more with C. However you like, but you don't need to split them into doses all day. You'd need 1000mg to go with 300mg iron. More C is ok.

I swallow mine. They're the size of aspirin basically.

Your choice. The Tender caps are 60mg and have C in them. About the size of Tylenol. When I run out of tablets, I'll take 5. (300mg)

Take with fruit or veggie, not with caffeine, dairy, egg or whole grains, alone together away from those foods and any other vites, minerals or meds
