Plastic Surgery
I would like to know who has had plastic surgery after WLS. How long did you wait until you started inquiring about plastic surgery. Were you pleased with the results. I am 10 months post op and really can't see me getting to my doctor's goal weight. (150) I have 28 lbs left to lose. I am in a size 10 and am very comfortable at this size. I think if I loose another 28 lbs I will be TOO skinny at 5'7. At my FAT weight, I carried a lot of my weight in my hips and thighs. My legs look like cottage cheese and I still look fat in my legs. However, I don't see loosing this. My skin just droops down to my knees. It looks horrible. I would like to wear a bathing suit, but with these legs, I am too embarrased. A also need a abdominoplasty because I have a lot of stomach skin. Would appreciate any feedback
I had my surgery in Nov 2006, and then in Oct 2007 had hernia repair/panni (TT). At the time I had lost over 100# but was not at my goal weight (150. I was around 178). They removed 5# of skin in the panni. I jumped to have the surgery because my hernia was so severe... midline abdominal incisional ... that I looked like I was 7 months pregnant. I was also facing my husband changing careers and a major change in insurance...I did not want to be faced with a pre-existing clause or any other issues. I wish I would have waited as now that I have managed to lose the last 20, I do have a little sag in my abdomen. But at the same time I could still have the hernia and all the skin. I am currently looking into getting my breasts fixed now after 4 years. I am realizing that as the time has passed and I am getting older, they are getting worse...involution? I am running into the problem that since time has passed and they have settled and the skin has shrunk some that it is going to be difficult to get them fixed as a "reduction" and I may have to go for a "cosmetic lift"
I know that usually a PS wont bother with surgery until at least a year, and that your weight loss needs to have stabilized. I have also realized that over time your skin does begin to adjust some, but of course the possibility that it will shrink to normal along with the loss in elasticity as one ages is never going to happen. You may want to look at the PS boards here also.
