Hypothyroidism
We aren't sure yet, but my thyroid levels on my labs came back sort of low. So my surgeon asked for more tests. Now I don't want to do an armchair diagnosis but some of the symptoms from what he told me are showing up in a very pronounced way. Not just weight gain but fatigue and forgetfulness (even with a good b12 reading on my labs).
I await the test results for further information, but could this be the key to figuring out my re-gain?

Hopefully your doc will treat you to where you feel right not just based on the lab numbers. A really good endocrinologist is so hard to find.
In my experience, DO's are more flexible than MD's. They focus on treating you based on clinical exam and symptoms as oposed to lab test only. Also, they are more likely to determine if you personally do best on natural or synthetic bioidentical hormones. Best wishes in resolving your weight gain. What I wouldn't give to resolve mine.

LV'N MY RNY. WORKING FOR ME BECAUSE I WORK FOR IT.
I'm going for a Dexa Scan Feb. 24th so I will be anxious for those results, having back/hip pain but I'm pushing exercise now that I'm starting to feel better.
Sometimes I don't think I will ever get back into my size 6's but we will see...in time.
I'm much older than you, will be 55 tomorrow. As always this WLS wasn't about getting to some number on the scale for me, it was about my health and that has improved so much. Then I want more...isn't that normal...to want to be better? LOL
So I will celebrate that I can do spin class, water aerobics and weight lifting class once again. The weight will come off in time.
Yours will too.
Also please keep in mind for some RNY'ers all of a sudden they start losing weight without even trying. Let's hope that will happen to us! LOL Until then like you I will continue to exercise and practice Mindful Eating.
I'm not so much concerned about losing more weight as I am about NOT gaining anymore.
I'm up 20 lbs. from my lowest weight and even on my worse days I don't break 2000 calories and I burn like 2500 a day, so I have NO idea why I gained that much. So getting to the bottom of that will be a relief. My surgeon seems to believe it's not all me. Although I admit I have some less than great habits from time to time, I would say a solid 90% of the time I do what I am supposed to do.
That 10% is a m-fer!!!

Okay it's not your it's in your genes. Mine too. I gained almost 30 pounds basically from not exercising due to post op pain from surgery in July. Finally I said enough and getting my ass back to the gym. I still have pain but I'm pushing through it.
When I wasn't exercising my surgeon said to go back to 60 gms of protein a day. I was up to 120 gm. of protein a day because I was exercising so much.
Okay last night I was bad and ate a handful of chips and dip...just undone my damn spin class I did...one step forwards 2 steps back! At least it wasn't the whole bag.
Keep in touch, let us know how your thyroid tests come out. When I went to the doctor about my Mennier's disease (dizziness) he said he could put me on steroids but didn't want to do that since I was struggling with my weight. I told him nope, no steroids for now, will deal with the dizziness and this week I haven't been dizzy at all. Knock on wood.
I bought some honey mustard pretzels at Wal-Mart the other day for a decent reason. I have these wierd blood sugar drops (not frequent enough to be considered hypoglycemia...it only ever happens every once in a blue moon and has no apparent rhyme or reason) and I bought them so that I wouldn't fall out in the middle of the store.
Took 'em home and couldn't keep out of that bag! Guess what went into the trash?
Yep...we gotta do what we gotta do.

If I had the pretzels in my purse I'd be eating them too.
I also keep a banana in my car and eat half b/4 workouts and half after workouts.
Hopefully my hubby finished those chips and I don't have to be tempted when I get home.
Chips always call me by name!
One of these days the celery and carrots will. LOL
Ahhh....and life goes on doesn't it!????
I can't wait til Spring comes, I love riding my bike outside. Now a casino just opened around the corner (that would be in the country) Gun Lake Casino, people are waiting outside to be let in. I'll be riding my bike past that place and onto Yankee Springs where it's free and I can go swimming. Thank God I don't care for casino's, but I do like going in and watching people spend money.
After my surgery I had to start taking levothyroxin to replace the hormone the thyroid produces but we have not been able to get my TSH levels down to where they should be. My endo would like to see my level around .2 (a little hyperthyroid to help prevent the recurrence of the cancer) but my last test showed I was over 9. I have been in a fog since since surgery and doing even the simplest tasks are difficult on a good day. I have been at my current job for ten years and am having to ask how to do things I have always done, I am so exhausted I am falling asleep at 7:00 some nights, I am living on coffee and went through a period where I was also using simple carbs for energy (wow, talk about a viscous cycle!) In August I had to go through radiation treatment and had to be taken off my thyroid medication completely for a long time to prepare. They needed my TSH to be up around 25...eek! We are slowly getting my numbers down and I can't wait to be hyperthyroid someday. I am looking forward to easier weight loss and excess energy. In the meantime, I am hanging in there and continuing to work with my amazing endocrinologist. I have faith she will get me to where I need to be.
I hope your doctors are able to find the right dose of medication to help you feel your best. If you start taking levothyroxin make sure you watch out for hidden soy in foods. You can not eat soy (or take calcium or iron) for at least four hours after taking your medas the soy, calcium and iron block the absorption of the levothyroxin. This makes it more difficult to get all of your vitamins in. I was eating Kashi Go Lean w/ my Greek yogurt most mornings and discovered it was primarily soy. We think that might have been the reason we couldn't get my TSH to come down and the reason a higher dose resulted in higher, not lower, TSH.
Keep us updated. I am curious to see if your new diagnosis and the treatment for it help your weight loss and improve your fatigue and forgetfulness.
i know you probably do not use a lot of soy - but even small amount, when eaten regularly for long time may affect thyroid functions. At one time in my life I had low thyroid hormones due to soy. ^ months of complete soy free diet (very difficult) restored my hormones to almost normal. Even now when I eat some soy - my T3 will drop, even though my TSH and T4 are OK. So I have to make sure to avoid that.
A lot of foods have soy lecithin, soy flour, soy oil, etc.

I actually have been heeding your warnings about soy for both me and the children. I do eat edamame on occasion but I have drastically reduced my TVP consumption (I used to eat it all the time) and in general I don’t eat a lot of soy.
Thank you for reminding me so many times. After you tell me something X times it does sink in!
