I just need to 'say' this out loud I guess.  I do not get the need people have to blab  not only their own personal info but any info they have about others as well.  Any scrap of info they get about someone they put on their facebook page.  It's almost a subconscious contest to see who can post it first.
There  is no catching up talk when you see an old friend.  They already know all about you and yours because they've read it on someones facebook page.  Maybe you've lost a lot of weight and rather than 'wow - how did you do it' you hear 'oh yes, I read that you took the easy way out and had surgery.  Sad and annoying.  Hate facebook - Just sayin...

Hmm. I enjoy facebook, personally..I have some (well, more than some 300+) friends and family that I don't live near...grandchildren that I communicate with..share pictures with..and then I play scrabble with them. I have a blast on facebook.

There's also a community of WLS patients that support eachother with a private group on facebook. You have to be invited to be in the group and we post things that other people just wouldn't understand..share our fears and strategies..I like that.

But what I like best is being able to keep in contact with my grandkids..
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

I like FB too--for keeping up with my family that is out of state...my issue is that when you are face to face with someone they wont even engage in the moment because they are too busy keeping up with FB.......time and place..........

You are right--there are many good groups on FB and it is an awesome tool to keep in touch.

I have six grandkids in Washington State and they're on there..Five in Sacramento and they're on there. Aunts and Uncles in Montana and northern California..cousins, neices, nephews..it's really good to keep in touch and share pictures. Of course there are issues when people talk politics and/or religion but that's to be expected anywhere..

You can friend me on face book and I'll invite you to the WLS group if you want. I'm all about support anywhere I can get it and give it..

What is the name of that WLS group on facebook? I'd like to join. I also have 300+ friends and enjoy all those stupid little games (Ninja Saga, Farmville, etc)  I spent 10 years not knowing what my family members were up to because I was too lazy to call and now I can keep up with everybody - no effort involved. I can also keep up with what my kids like and who their friends are and what their friends like - no way they would ever tell me some of the things I learned on facebook. Many of my children's friends also have moms who FB and we are now FB friends so we can pm each other about our kids teachers, football practice, etc. I also have an elderly friend who is a "neighbor" in farmville - the game is how he stays engaged with the world. Harvesting his crops is one of the only reasons he gets up out of bed somedays.  It is also the only way he can participate in the lives of his grandkids. FB is pretty useful in my opinion.

I was involved in FarmTown and Happy Aquarium and then FarmVille..all of which take up a ton of tiem and keep me from moving around more which is a bad thing. But since I have four grandsons who live out of the area on facebook and a granddaughter and numerous neices and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles..on facebook. it's nice to be able to share photos and stuff with them.

You can friend me on facebook and I'll put you onto WLS..it's a private group and by invitation of members. Of course, if there is any drama, people get dropped out of there too.  We have newly outs on there, grads, people 9 years or more too..women who have had or will have babies after surgery on there..people who have had the sleeve and band and all sorts of people from all over the world!

[email protected] is my email address. You can find me from that. I just saw a girl from my local support group that hasn't been back to support in well over a year and her baby boy is a year old. She was devistated because she was pregnant and she's gained alittle..same as here. We all help eachother.
