Sometimes I don't recognize myself

I know that seems crazy, but if I catch just a glimpse of myself in a mirror I don't always recognize it as me.  Sometimes I think - hey is that Misty (my skinnier sister)?  My best friend moved to Colorado 5 months ago and when she visited last week even she said I didn't look like me.  I have changed a lot and sometimes it is disconcerting.  I know I look better overall but sometimes my face looks haggard.  I'm taking my vitamins and trying to get enough sleep.  I know I have been stressed lately - maybe thats it.  I just sometimes look in a mirror and wonder - is that really me? Who am I now?

In some ways, you're less of who you used to be but in some ways, you're a whole lot more. You can do more, go more places (airplanes, roller coasters...) and in some places you can't (Lane Bryant...)

I catch a glimpse of myself in a window refection or a mirror and wonder who that person could be...some times I startle that it looks like my grandmother..oh well, I skipped completely over my mom and went to my grandmother. LOL..but my grandmother was one hell of a woman..so it's all good.

Think of yourself as a new friend that you want to get to know and it won't be so bad..
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Definitely understand where you are coming from. I am constantly fingering my collarbone, it doesn't feel like mine. Whose knees are those, they sure don't look like mine! Have found working out with mirrored walls (dance studio at the gym) helps me feel more in tune with what my new body looks like. I think it is important to work on this, if we don't feel like ourselves we may sabotage ourselves trying to return to our "normal". Best wishes! Jenny T

That's so odd - I look like I remember my grandmother looking when I was younger.  I'll have to get some old pictures out.  My Mom is over weight and in my memory has always been so I look less like her now.  Thanks for the encouraging words and your humor.  Sometimes this all gets too serious and I have to remond myself that it's okay to have a little fun.
