I am 19 months post op, lost 115 pounds and gained 15 back.  I dont want the 15 to become 50 and felt desperate to find some support.  This is exactly what I needed, support and accountability.  Well nice to meet everyone!!

Hey Monica!  Congratulations on the loss!  You can handle those 15.  No problem.  The lowest I got to previously was 171 and then I started to creep up to 175 and nipped that in the bud fast!  I'm now down to 169 with some hard work and dilligence and looking to get down to 155!  You can do it!  Just get back to the basics.  :)

I am also new to the "grads" forum, and it looks like we are about the same place. I am coming up on 19 months out and find my weight creeping up gradually. I am only 5-7 # up right now, but it has me very upset this morning. My weight had hovered at 153-155 since last August, and I was okay with that even though I would have liked to lose about 5 more lbs.

I have eaten out a lot in the past week, so that may be part of the issue, but I am back on my shakes and soft proteins for the day today!

Hey Monica,

I was surprised who prevalent regain actually is (from speaking to many long-termers). In a way, that made me feel better as I felt sort of ashamed of my bounce back and thought it meant I was an epic failure. I still have work to do but it's comforting to know it's not only me.

Psh...epic failure..I ought to smack you! You need to start talking to yourself the way you speak to the rest of us..with kindness and love..Maybe sometimes alittle tough but always with love..

Of course, the smack you comment wasn't very loving..and Psh wasn't either. I guess I'm failing too. LOL..
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Oh, believe me. There are many Nik self pep talks. In the interest of not getting committed to an institution (because I can get testy with me sometimes!****ep them mostly in my own head. J

Monica~  I am brand new to this board also and our numbers are similar, I am a bit further out than you but have also started to gain. I have finally gotten my head out of the sand and I am gone back to doing what I know I need to do. We can and will reach our goals! A quote I read that has been helping me a lot is "Don't trade what you want the most for what you want at the moment."

Hi Monica.  Welcome.  The statistics say that people who have had weight loss surgery will reach a low weight after surgery and then bounce back up a little bit.  That is normal.  I have heard that 15 pound bounce back is pretty common.  I know that it is really scary to gain weight back.  I'm fighting it now.  gained some back in the last year.  I'm just going back to basics and the weight is falling back off.  Thanks to my RnY, I have the tool to lose it again.

Carnation Instant Breakfasts are your friend.  Those are the "protein shakes" that my surgeon recommended because they are the least expensive option with great protein and vitamin levels.

Don't be discouraged.  You are at that stage where the weight loss honeymoon is over and you need to start developing life-long eating habits that work with your surgery and will keep you on the track to long-term success.

You can do it!  You have the tools, the education and now that you are here on this message board; you have the support.  Ra, ra, ra!  Sis, boom, ba!  The people here will be your cheerleaders.

Weight loss surgery has saved my life and I would recommend it to anyone who has the strength to dedicate themselves to the challenging WLS lifestyle.  This is not the "easy way out."  It's the hardest way out.  "Easy" would have been to do nothing.

I have never posted on this forum before because I think I like to think that if I don't consider myself a graduate then I can pretend I am still in the "honeymoon" phase.  Not so much, I am up 9 pounds from my lowest. I almost got to onderland and then BOOM! right back up.  I really want to get to 180.  Good luck!
