Dumping TOO easily

Thank you for the suggestions. I'd come to the conclusion that only protein ... pure proteins... are safe right now. Unfortunately that isn't the food that I HAVE, but I'll get more in, so that I can work on having a better meal plan.

I also don't drink with my meals. IF I forget, I vomit.

I've been doing nuts lately, to up my fats, because my diet had become almost 100% fat free (so many foods with fats make me dump, I have a natural aversion), and those help.

Milk and I aren't pals, but I've been drinking Almond Breeze also, which works very well for me, and never makes me dump (thank goodness).

I appreciate the suggestions!

Speaking of cold meds - reminded me that a few years ago I had a bad cold and thought I was dying.  My helpful hubby strongly suggested NyQuil.  Against my better judgment I took a slug.  OMG I'll never do that again.  I really was dying after that.  It was the most horrendously godawful thing I've ever had in my poor pouch!  LOL

The first cold/flu I got after RNY I took nyquil and it was awesome.

A year or so passed, and the next tiem I took nyquil, I went from feeling aweful to feeling HORRENDOUS....they'd changed the formula. I can't stomach ANY liquid cold medicines. I'd rather just die a miserable death than use them.

Now it's pills or nothing, and even the pills make me feel bad.

As it is, even WITH the pills, I'm blowing my nose 10 times an hour. Seriously. For the last three weeks. It's just enough to drive a person bonkers.

I don't necessarily dump easier but I dump differently now.

I have discovered that I can tolerate sugar if I eat a full meal first. Luckily, this means I'm relegated to following the "three bite" rule. On an empty pouch, I can't do sucrose, fruit sugars are iffy (it really depends on what fruit it is, seems to have something to do with the GI rating. Higher GI fruits almost always make me dump on an empty pouch), milk sugars seem to be ok.

Fats...that's where I have the most problems. My pouch doesn't mind fats that are plant based (nuts, avocados, etc.). Animal based fats (even salmon) seem to bug the crap out of my pouch! I can't do things that are greasy or fried (well a few bites but not that many) and I can't do anything that uses a heavy concentration of animal fats (meatloaf made with higher fat meat...any meat that is not extra-lean).

I did not realize this was dumping until recently. Most of the time if I eat something with animal fat in it, it simply comes up. Christmas was downright sad...I threw up EVERYTHING I ate...my family was so disheartened! After a day or two I just took to cooking my own food separately.

I can tolerate animal fats in moderation, vegetable fats more-so, but the highly processed garbage in highly-processed foods..... that puts me over the edge in no time. High sugar/fat content does me in no matter where the fat is coming from.

Pure sugar doesn't seem to tip my scales.... not by itself. I have to have fat in the equation, or I won't dump. I once, about 8 months out from surgery, mindlessly ate a whole dark chocolate candy bar. 24 g of sugar. No dumping! But another time I had Tomato soup, with 24 g of sugar, and I about died I dumped so bad. I can dump on abysmally high amounts of fruit but I usually hit restriction before I have too much fruit. I do, however, dump on even 8 oz of skim milk. I don't tolerate milk sugars AT ALL. And even if I did, I'm lactose intolerant since surgery, and whoever said it goes away didn't mean for ME.

Most of what I eat is a fairly good blend of fat/carb/protein... usually 90 - 110 calories per snack/meal, an the sugar while a bit on the high side is usually not enough to tip my dump-o-meter. Except now that I'm sick!

I do, sometimes, have a treat that, alone, might make me dump, but AFTER a solid protein-forward meal probably won't. But usually I don't have the type of room necessary for a protein-forward meal AND a treat.

Sorry you are going through this, I know you've dealt with being sensitive to sugar.  You may need to back off even more on grams of sugar in a meal or snack and focus on meat and cheese, along with other aminal protiens and add healthy veggies and grains.

I don't dump often, it consist of nausea only.  I really wish I was more sensitive to sugar it's a vice for me.

Thanks

I get frustrated. But I've been a LOT more mindful of what I'm eating the last few days, and that has helped a lot. A lot of my food options are limited at work, so I've been eating some of my too-sugary foods slowly, chewing better, giving myself more time to digest between bites.

At home I've also been choosing more protein-forward foods so that I have less issues with dumping.

I, too, like my sugar treats. They, on the other hand, dislike me!
