6.5 years out, what do you eat?
I had RnY six and a half years ago. I have done very well with it until about a year ago when I went through some huge personal changes and had a handfull of unrelated health problems begin. I lost my focus. My caffeine addiction spiraled out of control which is what I mostly blame for my problems. I wound up with a horribly painful ulcer in my pouch. Even my intestines were painful and "burned". I don't remember the term that my doctor used to describe it. I had gotten in the habit of drinking wicked-strong coffee from wakening to about 3:00 pm. Then I grazed all evening and topped it alll off with a huge bowl of greasy popcorn. I was gainig weight at an unbelievable rate. As a result of the ulcer, I had no choice but to get back on track and rethink everything I was putting in my mouth. My question is about what WLS graduate eat for their mini-meals. I don't want to stop and actually cook something when it's just for me. I cook a nice dinner for the family but I have my mini meals during the day. I eat four times a day. Here are some of the things I eat for my mini-meals. Would ya'll please chime in and tell me what you eat when you don't want to cook and don't have much time for food preparation?
I eat:
-cream cheese and natural peanut butter on a cheddar rice cake
-cheddar cheese melted on triscuits in the the microwave
-1/4 cup of liquid egg whites topped with cheese and mild salsa
-1/2 of a whole grain tortilla with cheese melted on it and topped with sunflower seeds
-1/2 of a mini whole wheat bagel with melted cheese topped with cashews
-light peach yogurt topped with raw pumpkin seeds and bran buds
How about you? What do you eat for easy, fast and healthy mini-meals?

I'm five years post-op and at first glance, I would say that you should cut back on the carbs. Rice cakes, Triscuits, tortillas and bagels are all carbs that are not doing you any good (in my opinion). I stay away from all bread products, potatoes, flour and rice. I eat peanut butter but just out of the spoon. I eat a lot of plain Greek style yogurt with almonds and fruit in it. I still drink a lot of protein shakes - 2-3 a day. Looks like you should up your protein and down your carbs (again, in my opinion).
It is not easy -- good luck.

I agree with Linda. Watch the carbs. I need to do the same thing. I really got off track lately--partly because of some social obligations and some health problems. I drink too much Crystal Light with caffeine. I am not drinking as many protein drinks as I have in the past. I like the Adkins RTD kind.
I am almost six years out and have done fairly good maintaining.

My mini meals include:
1 oz cheese wrapped in 1 pc turkey breast deli meat (and maybe a clementine)
a half an apple with peanut butter (reduced fat or regular..)
a handful of peanuts or 1/4 cup
1/2 cup cottage cheese with 1 tablespoon of sugar free preserves
a hardboiled egg with salt..

Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Those sound like good things to have for mini-meals. I used to eat cheese wrapped in deli meat. That was before my three kids turned into ravenous teenagers and I could no longer keep expensive things like deli meat in the house. I have a fifteen year old son who is six feet tall, never stops eating and never gains weight. I do tend to hide special "bypass food" that is just for me in the veggie tray where my teens will never look for it. I'll pick up some deli meat and add that back into my menu. Boiled eggs are a good idea too. I could cook some in advance. Thanks.\
Anyone else? What do you eat in your mini-meals?

I had to quit buying the single serving cheese sticks and buy the blocks and chop them up in 1 oz myself. I figure half of a pound is 8 oz, then half of that, half of that, half of those..close enough for government work..and the meat is small container (easily hidden in the veggie drawer from my ravenous teen). I open that and make sure I have five slices, freeze the other half..I keep my apples where they're visible (cuz he would never eat those...too healthy)
My son is going to be 20 so I've been hiding food from him for a while...since I found four cheese stick wrappers in his room..bless his little heart..brat. I bought him bologna and me the turkey meat..LOL.
Also, celery sticks with cream cheese or peanut butter..or cheese..
honey roasted peanuts are my downfall!

That's hilarious. I have to hide food from my kids in the veggie drawer too. I just tuck it in behind the carrots, potatoes, onions and such. They would never dream of looking there.
I buy the big blocks of cheap cheese for my teens and leave it right out in the open in the fridge and buy small packages of swiss and extra sharp cheddar for myself then hide it.
I also have to hide one box of whole wheat triscuits in "my cupboard" and leave one out for the kids. They can go through a whole box in a day and it leaves me with nothing. Darned teens. I know they are genuinely hungry and but they are like goats and can eat just about anything. I need special foods that are high in protein, high in dense fiber, easy to digest, low in spices, have no citris, and have no white flour or white sugar in them.
I'm not saying that I am feeding my teens junk. It's still healthy food but it's far from what I need.
I get so irritated when I accidentally leave "my" food within their reach and it disappears in one day.

I have to laugh about calling teenagers goats cuz when my son's friends are here, he eats like that but we say that you have to keep pigs as sets cuz they don't eat well if they aren't with friends..a pig by himself will be skinny...have two and they eat four times as much..LOL..
My son is way too thin so I don't worry about him eating too much of anything..6 ft and only 112 pounds..he's likely to get lost if he turns sideways! We would feed him anything he desires to keep him from blowing away in a stiff breeze..So he gets white castle burgers, hot pockets, pop tarts, reeses peanut butter cups, burgers, hot dogs, mac n cheese, pancakes, bacon...LOL..

I'm also 6.5+ years out.
I eat more than you.
I don't count anything though.
Typical day --
Coffee + soy milk, several times, water, Diet Ginger Ale, etc...
2 slices 35 calorie light wheat bread, turkey, mayo, lettuce/sprouts (This is my go-to meal right now.)
4 ounces cottage cheese
Low carb tortilla, cheese, black beans
A few bites/some of family dinner depending on what it is that I make for the family -- beef from stew, chicken casserole, pasta sauce/meat, veggies...
Crackers + cheese, or 1/2 sandwich to bed with meds
