LOL... that's funny that you posted this because I was going to post the same question. I'll be 3 years out in June of this year and started drinking soda about 1 1/2 years post-op. I know I probably shouldn't do it... however I haven't gained any weight back so I suppose as long as you aren't getting sick or gaining weight it doesn't matter. Although, it's hard to make an argument FOR soda since it's really not good for us. But, I do it ;-)

Honestly I don't know much about VSG, however, us RNY'rs are told NO!!!!! Why I have NO idea, we don't have a pyloric valve anymore so fluids go in and right back out, so the whole hooey palooy about it stretching our pouch is impossible, as far as VSG, sorry I can't answer that.

the issue regarding soda...its carbonation and the bubbles. A friend of mine decided to 'test' the waters...and was in pain for 3 hours! This was after only a couple of sips. She said the air and bubbling of the carbonation made her a firm believer that soda is NOT one of the 'treats' to bring back.

Carbonation (supposedly) stretches the pouch for us VSGers. I did drink quite a bit of soda (or pop as I like to call it) before surgery. Once in a while I get a craving for it and I'll order one in a restaurant, but I find that 6-8 sips is good enough for me. Then I'm over it! As with anything, moderation is key.
