Pop

I'm 13 1/2 months out from surgery (VSG) and at goal.  I have recently started drinking diet pop and wondered if anybody else does.  My Dr had said I should never drink it again but can't help myself.  What do you all think?

LOL... that's funny that you posted this because I was going to post the same question.  I'll be 3 years out in June of this year and started drinking soda about 1 1/2 years post-op.  I know I probably shouldn't do it... however I haven't gained any weight back so I suppose as long as you aren't getting sick or gaining weight it doesn't matter.  Although, it's hard to make an argument FOR soda since it's really not good for us.  But, I do it ;-)

Honestly I don't know much about VSG, however, us RNY'rs are told NO!!!!!  Why I have NO idea, we don't have a pyloric valve anymore so fluids go in and right back out, so the whole hooey palooy about it stretching our pouch is impossible, as far as VSG, sorry I can't answer that.

the issue regarding soda...its carbonation and the bubbles.  A friend of mine decided to 'test' the waters...and was in pain for 3 hours!  This was after only a couple of sips.  She said the air and bubbling of the carbonation made her a firm believer that soda is NOT one of the 'treats' to bring back.
Just my 2cents worth...

I started back after about two years.  No problems for me.   It is fluid and no calories and I would rather get my caffeine from Coke Zero than from coffee.

Carbonation (supposedly) stretches the pouch for us VSGers.  I did drink quite a bit of soda (or pop as I like to call it) before surgery.  Once in a while I get a craving for it and I'll order one in a restaurant, but I find that 6-8 sips is good enough for me.  Then I'm over it!  As with anything, moderation is key.

Thanks Nancy - yes, that's my OTTB mare Greta.  We're learning Dressage, planning on showing 1st level this year now that we've got my weight down and her red-headed sensitivities figured out.  You know horses?

Carbonated beverages by themselves are not a problem and I enjoy the occaisonal beer or soda.  I would estimate 2 or 3 per week.

When ordering drinks before a meal, I have to make sure that I finish before the food arrives as the carbonation, when mixed with food, can be uncomfortable.
