What do you do to get back on track?

I'm 18 months out, lost 100 lbs. in the first year.  I'm up 7 pounds - which is a-lot for my small frame.  Mainly this is from my over-indulging throughout the holidays... but I can't seem to get a grip on it and break the cycle.

What do you do to get back on track?  What are your tricks of the trade?

I want to get control of this before I gain even more.  I wish I could get that honeymoon stage after surgery feeling back!

You could do the 5 day pouch test to reset your pouch to a smaller size..that could get the feeling of full back.

There isn't one thing that I usually recommend but a whole group of things..This is just my opinion..

Journal your intake for a while to find out where you are and how much of what you are eating.

Dispell all the things you can't say no to from your house..and don't buy them again..

Move more..either walking or on a treadmill or hiking or just parking further from the store..

Drink more water..but not with meals or snacks.

Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

You can do a bing search on it but basically it's starting over like you just had surgery only shorter..

Day 1, only liquids

Day 2, only pureed foods

Day 3, only soft foods..

etc..

I struggle with the same thing. I regained some weight while I was pregnant with my son and some of it has never come off again. I bounce between being 10 and 20 pounds over where I want to be. It is very frustrating.

My personal trainer said that people who have had WLS often lose a lot of muscle mass when we rapidly lose weight and that makes it harder to lose weight when there is regain. She recommends doing strength training exercises to build muscle to help prevent re-gain. Maybe that will help.

Also, I find that the "rules" that I was supposed to follow after surgery have gone out the window and I need to get back on track. For example I know that I need to drink more water because it makes me eat less and stay on track. I recently posted a pledge on my blog to help me get back into that habit.

Also, remember to be good to yourself. You did it once, you can do it again. Keep coming to the boards and make it a priority to check in with the group. We're here to provide support.

Hope this helps,
Elizabeth
