Nutrisystem Food ????
Hi My name is Barbara I have never posted here before but I have a question I wanted to ask. Well let me first tell you about myself I had the RN in Nov. 2007 my start weight was 274lbs and my lowest 153lbs however I have gained a couple of pounds 7lbs to be exact. I was explaining this to a friend telling them how i did not want to gain all the weight back and today he surprised me with a 6week program from nutrisystem. After looking at the labels I notice that they are loaded with carbs so I called the 24 hour support desk and the person tells me that they are good carbs. Well from were I stand all carbs are bad so my question is has anyone used this food to start back losing their weight or should I just go back to our basic? Start with the 5 day pouch test and protein first, no eating with meals. Thanks in advance for your help

I used Nutrisystem before wls and it was okay. I did lose, but then regained.
My concern is more with the all carbs are bad carbs. You might want to do some reading on either Atkins or South Beach diets as neither of them are no carb, just low carb. Fiber comes from carbs and is necessary. Our brain uses carbs, our body needs carbs, so in and of themselves, carbs are not good or bad. How our body processes carbs--check out the glycemic index and insulin resistence--is what makes the difference. Carbs from white potatoes, bread, sugar, etc. are very different than from whole grains, veggies, and fruits.
Typically, I find that Atkins subtracts grams of fiber and sugar alcohols from total carbs as these carbs do not impact insulin the way sugars and starches do to get a net carb count. South Beach doesn't really count carbs in the same way but does consider fiber in preferring one food over another. It is more bean and whole grain friendly, so to speak, than Atkins.
This may be way more information than you want or need. I am doing the low-carb diet to lose about 20 pounds as it fits well with my focus on protein. If you are interested in the South Beach Diet, you might check out Kalyn's Kitchen blog as she has lots of great recipes and information.
Good luck.

Nutri/system has different programs. I think they have one for diabetics that is lower in carbs. Maybe you can exchange the food.
But with 7 pounds to lose, I'd just start tracking my food and eating protein first and maybe up the exercise rather than follow a strict program.
