Building a WLS Iphone, Blackberry App- HELP !!!
Hi Ladies and Gents,
I am in the process of building an app specifically related to WLS. I want to know what specifically you would want the app to do for you. Some of the responses I've gotten so far have been:
- send reminders about vitamins, water, protein
- meal planning
- exercise suggestions
- weight loss tracker
Anything you could think of that would make your post op wls journey go more smoothly I would appreciate. If you've started to regain weight, how could the app help you get back on track. I'll be posting this on a couple of forums. I appreciate your input.

A food journal, protein shake tracker, water tracker, and vitamin tracker would be great, so I could simply check stuff off as I go through the day. Also, have it by date and be able to update my weight for the day... which would track and graph weight loss/gain. :)

I'm so glad that you asked. I was just about to look for such an app. Here is what I need right now:
- customizable lab tracker (there is a spreadsheet floating around that lists most of the required)
- would like to add lab items not standard in tracker
- ability to set auto flagging on each test if a result is outside of my defined range
- have it indicate up or down from previous result
- have tips and info about a particular test. i.e. fasting required, do not take vit-? for 24 hrs etc.
- ability to add notes
- more info related to vitamin & mineral deficiencies
- best foods to increase copper level,
- is it better to try and eat (though malabsorbing), or just supplement
- or what is the best type of calcium, or iron supplements
- what supplements can I take together i.e. iron & vit c
- how important is selenium really.... and does it matter if my zinc is on the low end?
- as a WLSer, what do I really need to research more to help keep me healthy?
- which labs results should i look at for iron deficiency or anemia, i.e. ferritin, iron serum, saturation etc
- suggested vitamin regiment (customizable)
- perhaps even a shedule of dosages with reminder alarms
- track quantity of vitamin etc. taken i.e. 4x 500mg calcium = 2000mg for day
- ability to add notes
- deficiency symptoms, excessive tiredness could be low iron or vit-b(s), blurred vision could be need glasses (LOL), or perhaps vit- a is low low low
- some ability to work off-line, so I can study it on the plane.
- the ability to sync to my computer
I would gladly pay for an app that has enough information and flexibility to help me make intelligent choices about my supplement/nutritional needs. Being able to track labs and having the nutrition supplement information handy is invaluable in that endevor. I know it's a tall order, but that is what I need. Currently, I am lurking the boards, forums, searches etc., trying to get a grip on it all. I didn't even mention possible causes of "out of range" values such as celiac disease, or that being out of range can cause disease like symptoms.....
Perhaps as web search function like "click here to start google/yahoo search" for further info on blah-blah... but the basic info would be contained within the app itself.
Tracking food, water, exercise, weight loss/gain is also cool, but there are apps similar to that already.
Good luck and if you need a tester, let me know.
