Regain. I don't know what to eat anymore :(
I'm 3 years postop. I lost a total of 165 lbs. I weighed a few days ago and have regained 39 lbs.
I don't know what to eat to lose this weight. I hurt all the time because I developed tendonitis after taking Levaquin for a recurrent Strep B infection so exercise is difficult.
The doctor told me to avoid foods high in oxalate, sodium and protein to avoid forming more kidney stones (which led to my strep b infection). I'm already supposed to avoid foods high in fat and sugar (and simple carbs) because of the RNY.
I hate to admit it, but I gave up. I sat down and tried to figure out a list of foods that I could still eat and only came up with a few. I ate those few foods for about a week and got so depressed that I gave up.
So, I've been eating crap. Grazing on snack foods to keep my blood sugar up. The complex carbs that I used to eat are now not allowed. I can't have nuts, leafy greens, tea or chocolate and I have to limit my meat consumption to 4 oz a day.
I don't want to gain any more weight! I need to relose at least 20 lbs. I never reached my goal weight of 150, but I was quite slender and fit at 172 lbs. That was before my kidney stone troubles reared their ugly head.
Does anyone know if the whey protein in shakes has the same effect on kidney stone formation as the meat found in protein? I can make a protein coffee that tastes decent. I can't drink cold drinks now, as I'm always freezing cold.
I know I sound like a big whiner, but this is a sincere request for help. I feel so overwhelmed but I know it's up to me to take control and get things moving in the right direction again.
Can anyone help me figure out what to eat? I have lists of oxalate levels in food. It's pretty easy to figure out the fat, sodium and sugar content of foods. I guess my big question is the one about protein.

Stay away from white carbs or bready stuff like cookies, pasta, rice, potatoes..(especially fried ones)..You can do protein but be sure and get enough water..Fruits and veggies are good too. Basically, if you aren't expending much energy or calories, you can't take in much calories..
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

It is time to make an appointment with the nutritionist from your weight loss surgery team or have your doctor recommend one. The carbs like bread, pasta, rice, crackers and sweet things will cause cravings and can lead to rapid weight gain. At three years out, it is back to the old how many calories go in and how many get burned up.
It is boring and discouraging. Right now would be a terrible time for me to start a new food plan. If I were you, I would make a New Year's resolution to get back on track. Weigh****chers is great for me because I do much better when I have to stand there and get weighed every week. It keeps me focused. But definitely talk to an expert too and get together a food plan that will keep you from being bored and discouraged and also help you to meet your goals.
