Pancreatitis
I'm about 7 years out from surgery and have maintained my weight loss give or take 20 pounds. I haven't been perfect with diet, but for the most part healthy. Recently I spent a week in the hospital with Pancreatitis. There are a few reasons it could happen, but the closest I have for a reason is no gallbladder, or because a RNY surgery I don't digest food corectly. I have to follow a low fat, and sugar diet. (I have to anyway) I'm just wondering about anyone elses thoughts or experiences about Pancreatitis and RNY surgery.
Having had RNY should not have any effect on your pancreas, nor should not having a gallbladder. I have had pancreatitis twice. The worst attack was BEFORE my RNY, and -- like about 25% of the cases of pancreatitis, it was ruled "idiopathic" ... no obvious cause; the second time was because a gall stone was blocking the pancreatic duct, and as soon as the pancreas calmed down they took my gallbladder out.
I did a lot of research after my first attack (wanting to be sure that I did everything I could to avoid a second one), and asked the doctor a bunch of questions, and he finally told me that although there were things that could cause it -- alcohol abuse is reason #1 -- about 25% of ALL cases and 50-70% of all non-alcohol cases) have no known cause and often never recur.
