10 YRS. POST OP - GAINING - "STARVING"

I will be 10 years post-op on January 8 and I'm gaining weight and I'm scared and panicking.  I feel like I'm 'starving to death' ... my primary care doc says "it's obvioius I'm not" ... meany!

I joined W****chers with my sister thinking that weighing in front of a stranger AND paying will help me keep on track, but I don't think this is a diet for gastric bypass patients ... any comments, info, hints?

I'm just now reading about the 5 day pouch test.  I don't think I've popped out my staples, my stomach has just stretched, but I am never satisfied.  HOW MUCH CAN SOME OF YOU EAT?

Do you also go every 6 months for blood tests?  I had my surgery done in Houston, TX but now I'm in Seattle, WA.

HELP....

I do not have an answer, but I have found when I eat carbs I am always hunger. I try to avoid the white stuff==sugar, white flour, pasta and potatoes. I know this is a bad day to tell you this but try avoid them starting tomorrow. I ate dressing and potato salad for lunch, and I am starving now. I am going to try to get back on the wagon now. I have just had a protein drink.

I am almost 5 years post op and for the most part I have followed the WW plan.  My personal goal was 139 and my surgeons was 134.  I reached 123 and for most of the time I have stayed within a a couple of lbs this #.  A few months ago I did get up to 130 and kind of freaked out.  I realized I started eating a lot more carbs and grazing alot.  I did a modified version of the 5 day pouch test and did great, dropped back down and have been eating pretty much what is required with the WW plan and maintaining again.

As far as labs my surgeon has me do them once a year prior to my yearly appt with him and then my PCP runs basically the same test about six months later when it is time for my yearly physical with him..

~~Jodi~~ Actually below goal with 100lbs loss

if you are in Seattle, there are several good docs who can check your staple line. If you are 10 yrs out, with the doc you used, and you held your wt til recently, I'd look at SLD first before anything else.

We get labs every 6 months. For life. But we get a very long list done. I'm not far from you if you want to visit and get the list and some doc names.

My SLD at 5 yrs. My mentor made it 12 yrs. The staple line can disrupt right away or last a long time. In the case of my mentor, she took Ibuprofen after avoiding it all those years ad voila, thins the tissue just enough and out came the staples. Only takes a few for wt gain

Stale Line Disruption, If you were done lap, this couldn't happen. If you were done open, it could go either way.

Why? The older equipment was two handed and could not be used lap. Mine was done this way i***** By 2000, my doc was not doing lap, but he was using modern equipment.
