Please help!!
I had my Gastric Bypass about 5 yrs ago. Starting weight was 289 and at my lowest I hit 128...YAY! This year really messed me up though. After going through my fiance breaking my heart, several deaths in my family, graduating law school and then studying for the Bar exam, my weight/health really suffered. I am now back UP to 143lbs and SEVERELY anemic. At the advice of my doctor I am now taking a ton of vitamins including iron supplements but they make me feel even more sick. I don't know what to do...I really want to lose the 15lbs I gained but I'm worried that I am just going to keep gaining all the weight back. I've gone trying to stick to a 1200 cal-a-day diet and I've started working out 3-4 times a week but its hard because I feel so dizzy and tired all the time. Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.
STOP. BREATHEEE.
The only way you'll be able to get the weight back off is by taking care of the main issue..and that's the iron deficiency anemia.
STOP exercising right now. You do not have the energy and/or strength to be able to sustain yourself. Once you get back on track...taking vitamins, protein protein protein..drinking water, eating healthy again and once your blood levels are back on track, you'll lose the weight.
I am almost 6 yrs out. At 5 years out, I too had iron deficiency anemia...I was FREEZING, EXHAUSTED, HAIR FALLING OUT, VERY PALE, DULL/DRY SKIN ..and what scared me the most was when i started getting SHORT OF BREATH when doing the simpliest tasks.
I went to my surgeon, He did bloodwork and found that my Ferritin level was 3. I was immediately sent to a Hematologist and they began Iron Infusions...at first it was once weekly, but then had to go to twice weekly ..received 18 weeks of infusions and vitamin b12 injections ...slowly but surely starting feeling better.
I too had gained about 20 pounds in that process. Now i can easily and gratefully say that since Im taking care of myself and feeling better, the weight has come back off. Eventually, when i was cleared by the doctor, I began walking again and that has kept me on track.
So, PLEASEEEE..slow down, get better first, then worry about the regain.
GOOD LUCK and TAKE CARE!

The weight is secondary to your health..I'm coming to that conclusion myself lately..
What good does it do to be thin or at goal if you aren't actuall healthy..seriously..your goal is to be a good looking corpse? Keep in mind, I'm saying this to MYSELF too...
Get that iron under control and get your health first and THEN start on the extra weight..the extra weight is probably the only thing keeping you out of the hospital..

Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

There are different types of iron and some are harder on your stomach than others. Why not send a PM to Vitalady and get her suggestion on what type to take? If you can find one that doesn't make you sick, that will help a lot.
Also, are you taking your vits with food? That can help with the stomach upset as well.
My approach to live is to take it one thing at a time. Just concentrate on getting your labs better and once you are in a vitamin routine that is working for you, pick the next thing to work on...

Hey, gals! I don't know if you remember me or not; I haven't been around in a long while. But, I just wanted to pop in and say that I agree completely agree with you all. Get your iron up FIRST! Take care of your health, and then the other things will fall into place. Iron and protein are your priorities right now. (I'm preaching this to myself as well, since my ferritin just came in at 22.)
I have an order on the way from Vitalady for Proferrin, which is supposed to increase your ferritin levels without the stomach upset or other problems caused by regular iron. It's expensive, but I'm hoping it will be worth it!
Still working on the protein thing. Just can't find anything I like.
So, I'm on board with you...have been through a boatload of stress over the last two years, myself, and yes, it can totally get you off-track. But, we HAVE to put our health first. If we don't, nothing else will matter.
