Dear (un)happy girl,
I'm so sorry to hear you are in so much pain. It's no wonder that you've gained some of your weight back because you more than likely are in so much pain that you're unable to exercise.
Yes, I had a total hip replacement 2.5 years ago (six months after my RNY). When I was hurting so badly from my hip I gained 25 lbs.over night when I stopped exercising and then another 25 lbs. to qualify for the WLS.
Something is terribly wrong and you need to get back to your orthopedist surgeon. I was one of those people who instantly had relief from my hip replacement and could have easily returned to work in 1 month although I couldn't drive for 2 months, thus stayed off work for 8 weeks. Please get to the doctor and if he's unable to help you see another doctor. This is not typical and there is no reason you should be suffering.
Please let me know if I can be of support to you. You may also want to post on the arthritis forum, since there are many people there who have had knee/hip surgery.
Once you get some relief from pain you can begin recovery and get back on the wagon with exercising and try to lose some of the weight you've gained.

I totally agree! Since the hip joint is no longer there, the source of pain should be gone or at least tolerable.
It is possible that you need a second opinion from a different surgeon. Sadly, they are NOT all equal. One surgeon I work with does a lot of "repairing" of other surgeries. I don't know your personal history, but even the patients we get on our unit (with medical comorbidities) are able to walk for longer than you described in your other post and are able to do so within the week.
Is there any way you can get an assessment from a DIFFERENT orthopedic Dr?

I have nothing to add, but I hope you get some relief and feel better soon.
