3 1/2 yrs out & weight gain
I went in weighing 240, and did well for first 2 1/2 yrs. I have fibromyalgia and have been on different antidepressants for this. Now on Cymbalta which works for depression & fibro. and is working, but still gaining weight. I was holding at 135, but now go from 145-150. It's so frustrating to have this happen. Was in size 6 jeans, but with just 15lb gain, had to go into size 10's, but still wear xs-med. tops depending how they're made.
So has anyone else became so frustrated with weight gain? My Dr. said it's normal & I'm doing ok for my age(63), and that we should take into account a fluctuation in gains & 15lbs is normal.
I don't want to be whiner, I just want a normal BMI, not a overweight BMI. I want my size 6 jean body back. I have shar pei skin and not looking into plastic surgery, but if I did have it maybe than a size 6. lol
I think it's great that I've lost the weight, don't tske me wrong and I guess it could be worse.
My hubby & friends say I look better at this weight, so maybe my mind just needs to revaluate the way I look.
I know I'll never be able to wear dresses or skirts that hit at the knee, as I carried a lot of weight there & now when I stand the shar pei skin hangs over knees.
Please let me know if anyone else going thru this and how you dealt with the weight gain, the hanging skin.
Take care,
Kathy

Shar pei skin is a bother when you've lost alot of weight. I wear skirts and dresses..my skin isn't bad though..I hate the jiggle factor so I wear support nylons..Makes me feel thinner than I really am because of the hangy skin..
Without the benefit of the volume limits of WLS, you're back to the standard way to lose weight..You have to figure where you are and what you are eating and make adjustments. Because of our history of weight loss/weight gain, we tend to get really down on ourselves over the gains so I suggest you change little things and keep doing what will eventually work well. Get more active, adjust what you're eating and figure out what works for you..The very first step is to maintain where you are so I would suggest journaling your intake for a week or so and see if something pops out at you like excess snacking or too many carbs or fat.
You can do it, with the proper motivation..if you decide you want to lose it..You need to figure that out for yourself..

Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Hi Kathy, I have regained weight also... and I am not happy about it! My highest weight was 307, surgery weight was 292 ? (7-29-07) my lowest weight was 172, and my current weight is right at 200. The first year I felt great! In November of 2008 I started to be too fatigued to exercise. I have Fibromyalgia so I thought it was just a flare up. This past June I got so bad that I was sleeping 18-20 hrs a day. Since I have a family history of Addison's disease, I decided to be tested for it. Addison's is where your body stops secreting cortisol, without cortisol you can die. A normal level is 7-25, mine came back 1.5 The Endocrinologist I went to blew me off because I have Fibro, and sleep apnea and depression. She wanted me to wait 6 wks. and then be retested, I knew I would be dead in 6 wks. I went to see a specialist in St. Louis, MO who I have seen for the last 10 yrs. He has a MD license and also a holistic doctor. He had been treating me for adrenal fatigue, so he put me on hydrocortisone tabs / 30 mg a day. I started feeling really good about a month ago. I am on cymbalta 40 mg / day. so between the cymbalta and the hydrocortisone I have regained about 30 lbs. I am going to see my surgeon this Thursday for my 3 yr. check, while in Chicago I am going to see the hospital dietician, to see what she can tell me to do different. I think I will try to wean myself off of the cymbalta with the help of my psych doctor. I am also discouraged by the excess skin... I cannot afford to have any plastic surgery done yet... plus the fact that I want to lose more weight and keep it off before I have the surgery done. I ate roast beef at 1 pm on Sunday and I am still wishing I could bring it up! I am doing a lot of spitting.... I cannot drink anything or eat anything! I am so miserable, it has been over 12 hrs... I just need some sleep! :)
Hi Sharlene!!
Thanks for the reply.
Yes, since we have fibro., they seem to think anything that comes up, is related to fibro. We need to be our own advocates & insist on getting things done.
I've been having trouble with numbness in legs, they told me fibro., but I knew it wasn't.
Had MRI & it showed a tear in dura in lower spine, so leaking spinal fluid. No wonder I was having killer headaches along with legs going numb.
I wish there were meds for us that didn't cause weight gain, but so far I've had no luck. Have been on several and so far the Cymbalta has worked, but with weight gain.
And yes, plastic surgery not in our budget with the way economy is right now.
I have a area under panni. where it hangs over that the stretch line bleeds now & than, but so far have been able to deal with that.
So to another fibro. sister, may we find the right meds, see if we can congure & control weight gain. We've come so far and we must not give up. It's a new way of living & each day we need to take control of our actions. WE CAN DO IT!!!!
Sorry you're having trouble with the roast beef, seems like sometimes we just can't eat certain things, and they get stuck. It's a awful feeling. I hope it went up or down.

Take care,
Kathy
