ok I have been getting a lot of pain in my diaphram area traveling up my esphoges (sp) and I have followed up with a my dr and they are sending me to a GI specialist.. but they think it may be a hiatal hernia, is that possible and has anyone had this happen to them.. any input would be greatly welcomed.

they discovered a hiatal hernia in my pre-op upper endoscopy..From what I gathered it's from filling up your stomach too much, above the valve at the top of the stomach and having the food sit there with acid in it..the top of your stomach (above the valve) isn't designed to have contact with stomach acids for extended periods of time and it will "complain" about it.

That is all I know.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

What you are describing is the possible damage caused by having a heital hernia. The actual hernia is a part of your stomach poking up through the opening in the diaphram amking an extra pouch that food can get trapped in. My hernia "went away" after gastric bypass. It hasn't bothered me since my RNY.

Did you have a hiatal hernia before the vsg? I have a hiatal hernia and my surgeon is going to repair it when he does my sleeve.
