new to OH
Hello, I am new to OH & have a RNY surgery date of Nov 3rd (not a candidate for lap band). I still have a fear that I wont be able to keep the weight off considering all the times I have tried before. Also I dont want to become more healthy only to have concerns for vitamin, iron & calcium deficiencies in the future. Has anyone ever had the same concerns or is this just pre-surgery nerves?
Your fears are normal reactions to your upcoming surgery. Educate yourself thoroughly about your surgery, the requirements and possible complications. Forewarned is forearmed. Go into it with your eyes opened and your head in the right place and you will do fine. Eat as you are taught, take your vitamins and minerals, get your labs drawn every few months so you know your individual needs and how your body absorbs, exercise - in other words, be accountable. I went into this thinking I might be the one that it doesn't work for. I've lost over 180 pounds, gone from a size 32 to 10-12, diabetes in remission, joints don't hurt so much, and completely enjoying life again.
You've probably heard your surgeon talk about the surgery is just a tool. I didn't understand this completely until after my surgery. It's true. If you use your "tool" right, the weight WILL come off. If not, you'll lose some, but not what your maximum loss should be. Get excited about your future and commit to "working your tool".
Hope I helped a little. Good luck to you and keep us posted on your progress. This site has helped me tremendously throughout my journey. In the future, you might want to post on the main forum or the RNY forum. This one is mainly for veterans of the surgery and the others would be more likely to address concerns that you are going through now.
