Need help getting on track
Hi everyone - I am new to posting.
I had my RNY surger January 2007 (almost 4 years ago). I have gained about 8 lbs since my lowest weight of 157. I am between 164-167 at all times right now. I really would like to see that 157 again on the scale. It seem no matter what I do, I can't shake it off. I go for a mile walk every morning - trying to eat more subway. (I can eat a whole 6" sub now). I could use some help or any suggestions. Anyone ever plateau this way. I was thinking of increasing my protein (I know I'm not doing enough) and see if that would help. Thanks for all of your input - I really appreciate it.

hi there! I am currently trying to get back on track. I am usually between 150 and 160 but at 160 now so its time to get serious. I have added in a protein shake with fruit at breakfast and tried to limit carbs especially at dinner. If I must have a snack before bed I eat nuts or cottage cheese or have decaf coffee with sugar free creamer. This is only my second day so no news to report yet but already just since yesterday I feel less bloated. I also increased my water intake to 100 oz a day. Good Luck I hope this helps a little.
PS- Dont feel bad I can eat a whole 6 in sub too!

Hey Ruth Ann -
I am right there with you. I have been eating whatever I wanted and as much as I wanted for over a year now - AND avoiding the scale. I finally put on some jeans this past Sunday to discover them really tight. The scale showed me up 15 pounds since my lowest weight post WLS. I was mortified and came quickly back to this site to look for support and I got it.
Here is what I have done for the past 6 days to get back on track and already lose 3 pounds: 60-100 oz of water per day (any other beverage doesn't get counted, like coffee, it has to be plain water), drinking a low-carb protein shake for one meal per day, NO SNACKING AT ALL, pilates for one hour for 5 days (taking the weekend off.)
Someone told me about the 5 day pouch test at www.5daypouchtest.com. AWESOME! it is designed just for us who need to be reminded that our tool isn't broken. I haven't followed it too a tee but what I have done has really helped me tighten down my sleeve somewhat. I am loving this. I was so scared that I was doomed to gain all my weight back - now I have hope!!
Good luck - know that there are alot of us in the same boat out here - I am loving this site!

Sounds to me like you are doing pretty darn good.
Journaling might help you identify where you can change up some of your eating choices, will allow you track your protein and water. I downloaded copy of FitDay to keep on my laptop (nternet is not always available) - but there are a lot of free food tracking sights.
Increasing your exercise might help - perhaps in addition to the walking you might start adding some light strength training and/or core body training. It doesn't have to be expensive - check out books or videos at the library to see what you like. You can use filled waterbottles for weights, and resistance bands are pretty cheap.
Good luck!

Hi
I am 164. When I really starve myself, I get down to about 158, but I never stay there. I think that for me, 164 is just my set point. I am 5' 10" and have a normal BMI at this weight. One thing I do that I think really keeps me at the same weight is weigh myself daily. I also increase protein and fluids if I do gain a few pounds. That always works.

I would say not to get too fixated on a number. I know it's hard. I got down to 112-113 at my lowest (with an occasional day of 109). Then I decided to put on more muscle and the scales be damned!
Now, secretly, I had hoped to lose a bit more fat equal in poundage to the muscle I put on but it was not to be. So now, even though I look great and the way I want to, I still kind of wish I was still that weight instead of 3 pounds higher. It's dumb and I know it.
I would say do some strength training to build muscle and some some more intense cardio to burn fat and don't worry about what the scale says.

Hi I am now 218. Had rny in 2005. highest was 271. my lowest has been 179. My biggest problem is grazing. Food still gets stuck. I have recently had back surgery and that has been another obstacle or excuse. Back acting up again, but I know I should be walking. Would benefit me in several ways. Thinking about trying the 5 pouch diet again. Not eating very much, just low carbs high protein. Did good this past week but was put on predisone. Yuck

I worry when people are advised not to worry about the numbers on the scale. To me those numbers are as important as the numbers on my bank account. I weighed myself daily for years. This summer I put the scale away and had fun eating whatever I felt like. After three months, I went to the doctor and was up ten pounds.
The scale is out of the closet now and I am weighing daily, but it seems very hard to get weight off now. I think that all of the food restriction in the last years has taught my body to hang on to every calorie. I would advise anyone to always weigh in.
