Hello, I was just released from the hospital today after being admitted for extreme stomach pain, nausseau, and vomiting.  They finally did a endocopy and discovered that I had an ulcer.  The staff at this hospital was horrible, so I was unable to get any information about it.  Stuff like which stomach is it in, how many, what did I do to cause it/them, what an I do to prevent them.  All those questions a patient might want to know!!!  My surgeon is off for a long labor day weekend, of course!!

They sent me home with a prescription for something similar to Nexium but by insurance will not pay for it.  So of course I couldn't get in touch with anyone at th hosital/surgeon/or primary doctor's office to help rewrite the prescription.  Kind of aggravating.  So I just bougt some over the counter Zanta****il I can get in touch with someone.  I was also upset becase I came in the hospital with pain and left in pain, but did have a diagnosis.  But neither the admitting doctor or the gastro would write me a prescription for any type of pain medicine. They said that ulcers don't cause pain that you should take anything stronger than Tylenol for.  I was so mad.  Oh well

Sorry for the lengthy right up.  But could someone share their ulcer stories with me?

You need a PPI. So instead of Zantac, you should get OTC Prilosec or Prevacid.

I was diagnosed with an ulcer 2 years ago and have been on protonix since. Last week I was in a tremendous amount of pain and once again, the ulcer was diagnosed. remember, I have been taking meds every day for 2 years. My gastro said that they have found that RNY patients are not absorbing some of the ulcer meds. He told me to take Zegred, an OTC drug. He said that should work best. Check into that
