7 Years Post Op & Still At Goal ~ It is possible friends!
Hey Gang!! I know I don't get on here much anymore - its amazing how busy life gets - and I wouldn't have it any other way! But I totally missed my own anniversary yesterday!! How about that? haha. 8/19/03 I was almost 300 lbs; I lost 160 lbs and never looked back.
7 years people!!! And I am in the best shape of my life. I workout 6 days a week, eat healthy, and drink my Shakeology for protein and all of my nutrients and I feel absolutely amazing. Ya know the surgery only changes a little part of your stomach - its up to you to get the mind in shape and decide to make this a lifelong commitment, a lifestyle change. There is no finish line here friends, you just keep running. But once you commit to eating healthy, and exercising, it becomes a way of life and you'll never want to look back. Keep focused, keep moving forward. Had a bad day? Forget about it and move on. Every morning is a new day, a fresh start. Write your goals down, re-focus and get back on track. You can do it.
I just wanted to stop in here to wish all of you best wishes whereever you are on your journey and let you know that it is possible for you to win this battle!! Check out my profile for before and after pics, and if you have any questions, feel free to send me a message anytime - I'd love to help you out!!! Or just say hi - I'd love to hear from you!!
HUGS!

Thanks for posting this! I'm only 4+ years out and find it really discouraging that so many have fallen down and aren't getting back up. I feel so like I'm bucking the wind or the tide..But we fight the good fight every single day, right? Congrats..and please do come back from time to time..we all could use the encouragement and guidance. Me especially..
So many want to know what it takes to be successful and for me it's what you said about there isn't a finish line. It's a continuous journey, a continuous workout..keep going, keep doing what you are doing..
Bless you!

Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Hey Dawn - super to hear from you. I have to say after I posted I was skimming through the various other posts and it is unfortunate that so many are struggling with re-gain, getting back on track etc. Not to say I don't stuggle - every day is a 'fight' ya know - some days I may lose, but thats it. Can't let those slip ups or failures become your new habits and way of life. No way. I've come to far to ever look back and let that happen.
Any one can do it - regardless of where they are. Just stop now - refocus, figure out where you are and what you need to do to get where you want to be. And start over. Today. Don't waste another day.
Congrats to you for your succesful loss and for maintaining. Keep focused, keep looking forward, keep eating well and keep moving. ;~}
Bless you too!

Thanks Jen ~ I will try to be better about getting on more often just to say hello and be there for others. It's not impossible, you're right. Definitely a daily battle and it can get overwhelming. Such a huge part of winning is getting the right mindset. I'm thankful for my success and the least I can do is try and Pay it Forward. Best wishes to you!!!

My RNY was July 8, 2008 and I've lost about 70 lbs. My surgeon wants me to lose another 20 and I would like to lose 30. Even though I'm still overweight according to the charts, I'm must better off than before WLS. No meds except Snythroid.
There's been no weight loss since July 2009. After dieting for 35 years, I was hoping not to have to track my food after surgery, but I need to if I want to lose the rest of the weight. I'm tracking my eats 5 or 6 days a week and I'm finally getting in an exercise routine.
It's really sad when people regain most of the weight they lost. I don't know if I could handle that. Message like yours are very encouraging. We do need to take control.
Do you eat high protein, low carb? My dietician said 1,200 calories a day with 600 being from carbs. No way would I ever lose any weight and would no doubt gain if I ate 600 carbs a day. I'm pretty much following high protein, low carb.

Dani,
You are a true inspiration. Congrats! The work is well worth it. My mantra is "never again" and every day I use all the tools I've been given to maintain and so far (after nearly 3 years) it's still working!

Good for you! I'm coming up on 7 years post op in October. Was 303, now 165. My lowest was 150, but that was too low. I'm 5'10". Things have been great... until now. Which is ironically why I sought out this forum again. I won't steal your thread, though! I'll start a new one. I was just so happy to find a thread for grads who are many years out like me. You look fantastic, and sound like you feel even better. Whoo hoo!
Jo,
I think you misunderstood your Nut. Each carb = 4 calories, so 600 calories from carbs = 150 grams of carbs. That's reasonable.
Barb
Oh, there's also 4 calories in each gram of protein, so that's 150 grams of protein if you were eating pure protein. In reality, you are getting SOME fat from your protein, even if you are eating really lean, and fat grams = 9 calories each.
So high protein, low carb and fat is the way to go.

Hi Dani
I'm 10 years out with RNY(I think that is the one where they do the re-routing)anyway, I wanted to ask you what is Shakeology? In the last 3-4 months I have gained 15lbs. back,to most people it would be laughable but I went through a lot to get where I'm at now to begin to gaining weight. That is one thing I swore I would never do. But my motivation stopped,I began drinking diet sodas, very little exercise, sweets.Any suggesstions to get me back on track?
Thanks Bonnye
