What would u do? 2 1/2 years out...

Hi...I have been lurking in this forum, but I haven't posted.  I was 320lbs at my highest, and lost dow***** However, bad habits crept in, and then I got pregnant and I reached about 270 again.  I am currently down to 250lbs.  So...at 5'4, I need to lose at least 100lbs to be around my goal weight.  If it happens, great...if not, I still need to lose a good bit to even get near the healthy range.

So confession time:  Soda(the real stuff) was allowed back in, candy, chips, the crap that got me where I was came back in full effect...and I just allowed it back in like a good old friend.  So...I know to cut that stuff out & am doing so.

Heres the question though.  My NUT visit was today, and she wants me to do the following:

1500 to 1600 calories(not breastfeeding anymore)
at least 180 carbs(WHAT?)
60 to 90 grams of protein

I get that I am farther out, but I know me & carbs...we have a love/love relationship.  I love them, and they love to stick around as fat.  Also..isn't that calorie level really high for someone that seriously needs to lose a good bit more weight?  I get that I wont lose as quick, not nearly as quick as a post-op, but is that many calories realistic?  Is that many carbs realistic?  And before you ask, YES she is the BARIATRIC NUT for my program.

Sooo...I know that you should follow what your nut says...but I was thinking more like 1200 calories tops and 100carbs tops...more like dropping them lower even than that.  What do you vets say?

Please help!!!

I hope I don't get flamed for this but the  bariatric nut. at my hospital is similiar to your program

1000-1500 cals. a day , depending on activity level
90-150g of carbs.
30-50g of fat
60-90g of protein
nothing to drink 30min before and 1hour after meals
Everyone is different, but when I stay within these guidelines I drop weight fairly easy and can maintain and I'm 4yrs out. However once I start grazing I'm out of control and can pack on several pounds a week. It's good that you're aware of your weaknesses, now you can focus on doing the right things for you. Good luck to you..

I suggest:

800 calories per day
50% of your calories from protein
5 days of cardio per week.  Walking at a fast pace for 40 mins would be OK

I would say, in about 6 months you could lose 100 pounds.

See...that is more like what I was thinking....

I commend you for recommiting and working to get the weight off.  You know you can do it.

I'm 2 years and 1 month out and still need to lose 20 lbs. and would like to lose 30 lbs.  Before and right after surgery, my dietician (part of my surgeon's team) strssed high protein, low carb.  Earlier this year she recommended 1,200 calories a day with 600 calories for carbs.  No way!!  I would love to eat 600 calories a day in carbs, but I definitely wouldn't lose weight and would no doubt gain.

I hate exercise and that's an area where I really need to work on.  There is no exercise I like.

Someone suggested 800 calories a day but that seems really low.  A lot of people do the Pouch Test, drinking protein shakes for a few days.  I have a hard time with that because I like something to chew.

My daily plan is:  1,000-1,200 calories; 80-110 grams of protein; 20-40 grams of fat; 100 or less carbs (50 or less is better).

Hey - tell me abou the Pouch test - I bought a lot of EAS low carb high protein drinks today - thought I would try that to help me get back on track.  I am doing Pilates 5 mornings per week but NO CARDIO - I don't like cardio.

My surgery was March 2007 so i am 3 years and 4 months out - GOODNESS!

I never really got to my goal weight - didn't even realize that until I just now came back to this site and saw that my lowest was 149.  I needed to be at 135-140.  Praying that I can make it there now...

Here is a web site you can go to.  It talks about buying a manual but further down on the page you will see the program.

www.5daypouchtest.com

I have not do it but I know people that have and they were successful in losing weight and de-carbing.

You can put in 5 day pouch test in the search box here on OH and there are a lot of comments about the test.

Good luck!!

The longer you stay away from the offending carbs, the better off you will be. The offending carbs are the "white" carbs...like sugar, bread, cake, pasta..Coke is one of those. Even diet coke is not good for you...It just causes problems if it makes you want the white carbs even more and it does. If you're aerobic for times during each day, you can afford the carbs but otherwise...not so much.

You can go back to basics and stay well below what the NUT has you there. Cut those carbs down to below the amount of protein and you'll be fine. Keep the fat under control. No need to go crazy eating a stick of butter or anything. I would go with 90-120 grams of protein and 90 or less carbs provided they are good carbs like raw veggies and fruit...whole grains..

You're more than welcome to take a look at what we do on teh accountability posts. Some days we do really well and other days just figure we're all learning by our mistakes..
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Great advice everyone.  Just wanted to put in my experience here......I am 4 years out and lost 110 pounds in the first 10 months...then bam..got pregnant and now I weight 196.5 (170 was my lowest).  I haven't been following the guidelines for my tool and started today getting back on track.  I'm going back to the very beginning and following liquids for a week, then soft foods for a few weeks, etc.  Just following the book that I was given right after surgery.  I have been very bad since the pregnancy......having diet cokes, beer, sugar every once in a while....white bread...you name it.   whatever my stomach would take, I ate.  DUH....that's what got me into the situation in the first place.....so back to square one.  It's going to be hard, but we can do this!  I'm 5'10 and have never been smaller than a size 10.  That's my goal.......might be nice to be smaller, but we'll wait and see.
