What do you think about now? Looking for those a few years out.

What  "things" do you think about now that we are this far out. I am over two years out. For me its not so much of what I am eatting or drinking constantly--its just routine now. But my thoughts now are on other things. For me its calcium and iron. They seem to be going lower over time.   Switching to Bariatric Advantage chewable so I can chew them at work like candy.  Also switched to Vitalady's Tender Iron. Thought the iron I was getting enough iron from my multi's was but Ferritin levels are dropping even though Iron labs are ok. Also researching PTH which I am now hearing is related to iron and Ferritin somehow.  Also reducing the amount of sweetener I was using as I think it is causing me to retain water.  Scale is up a tad. Usually run about 132-134. It went up to 138.9 about two weeks ago. (Yes, the .9 counts! LOL). Its running about 136 this week but I admit the gain was probably because I was snacking a bit while home the last few weeks.  Cutting out a snacks before a few pounds become 10, 20, or more.  Would love to hear updates. What things do you "think" about now that food is not an every second obsession?

I am four and a half years out as of july the 27th and have to say was the most amazing thing I ever did for myself. I still worry more about getting protein in than anything. I dont stay hungry still even after all these years but can still eat pretty good. I have always had issues with my iron even before WLS so am pretty used to that. Things have went pretty smooth for me in the overall pic. I still think about what goes into my mouth and always will because of where I started. I also up a pound, and down a pound but think that is normal. But feel so blessed for sure....

I am still pushing protein. My protein levels tend to run low so it's important.

Mostly I am concentrating on my fitness goals and less on my food. I have a routine with food and it works pretty well.

I have started to think of myself as a person who watches my weight vs. a person who struggles with my weight. I still log my food, I still weigh every day, I still watch everything, but I feel less driven by it.

I'm 4yrs out, I still have to think about not grazing. It's not something I did pre-op but a bad habit I developed about 18months out. I started out at 401lbs and never felt fat,and didn't have any health problems yet, sure looked it though! My labs have been good, I've read enough posts about people who didn't stay diligent with their vitamins and the side effects that I rarely forget to take what I need. However because of my grazing and 3 broken bones in my foot I had a regain of 60lbs. That's right, 60LBS !!! I've been accountable and the weight is coming off again.
The best parts are my youngest doesn't remember me being that fat, my daughter loves wrapping her arms around my waist, and my oldest son loves all the running, biking, etc things I do with him. Life with my hubby was pretty good before, and even better now. I could go on and on, but I've rambled on enough lol...

I live in a world full of acronyms related to my job however, not used to many for nighttime/personal life.  Not sure what PTH is???  My iron is low and ferritin is trace levels.  Curious...N

I am not all that sure what PTH is however I think its a blood measurement. Read somewhere that it has an effect on the iron and ferritin.  In May my iron was 147 and my Ferritin 31. Hoping Andrea or Vitalady will chime in.

PTH = parathyroid hormone

Here's an article about it:

You want it to be low. If it's high, that means your body is working hard to mine calcium from your bones.

I'm more than five years out. Mostly, I just think about not snacking so much. I can honestly say there is absolutely no difference between me and "normal" people. I can eat as much as anyone else and the same food as any other person. I feel like my "things" are everyone's things now. Don't overeat, get off this 20 pounds of marital bliss I've added after my wedding, exercise, quit the snacking, etc etc.

I did the surgery to be normal, and I really feel that I finally have reached that. :)

Today I am eight years post-op! Happy Anniversary to me!
I can honestly say, having my RNY was one of the best choices I have made for myself. I am healthier, and happier. I look fab, and for the most part, feel fab. All my levels are normal, however I have had problems with dumping since day one. I'd rather dump, than be fat.
I seriously don't live my life as if I have had this huge change (surgery) in my life. I think it's a matter of coming to terms, new life, things happening, life changes...you just go on.  I am now dealing with losing some un-wanted weight gain from taking lyrica (spelling?) for nerve pain. About 25 lbs. to be exact. It sux, the first time I have had to deal with gaining since my surgery.  I'm very conscience about what I put in my mouth, and am trying to slowly get back to my size 6's! I'm in a 10 now, and it is really messing with my head!
Anyway- I'm on facebook if anyone needs advice or just wants to chat!

I'll be 3 years out in 2 weeks.  I still count daily protein (but just track it in my head), but what I really have to focus on is limiting the simple carbs and on NOT snacking. (I still eat 2 protein snackls every day because that helps keep the otehr snacking down and keeps my metablism more consistent.) Currently, I'm struggling a bit with not getting as much exercise because of knee pain (severe arthritis... trying to put off knee replacement as long as possible) and a mysterious intermittent, but sharp, abdominal pain...
