Gastric Bypass in the News!

Hey friends!

I just wanted to let you know that AOL covered my 200-lb weight loss on their website That's Fit. It's so exciting when the media covers gastric bypass in a positive way. (It's even more exciting when that story is about me, of course.)

Blogging Helps Jasmine Maintain a 200-Pound Weight Loss

There were alot of comments on there dismissing weight loss surgery completely. Do you guys face that often? Do you find that people think your weight loss is "less impressive" because it came as a result of WLS?

Just wondering your thoughts.

xoxo

Thats Awesome!!! Congratulations both on your success & on making the news.
I agree that WLS are still portrayed by the media with a somewhat negative stigma - so consequently, it IS nice to see a positive turn about.

When I tell people that I had the GSB (WLS) i either get:
1) "whats that?" - a lot of ppl have no clue.
2) ooooooooh yaaaa **followed by that look, like i somehow "cheated"** - a lot of ppl have head of it, but have completely dismissed it as a viable means of losing weight.
3) total support, complete understanding, & a wanting to know more about it/ how much i lost, etc. - more & more ppl already know about one kind of WLS or another AND know someone that's had it done! I find this reaction more often than not now-a-days as WL procedures are becoming more & more main stream & popular.

Good going!

How horrible some of those comments are! How ignorant the general population is..I'm so sorry! You certainly should NOT take any of those horrible people to heart..I can't even express how angry some of those comments were. I wanted to scream at them!

You've done an awesome job. I look at it differently. I had my eyes fixed with radial keretodomy..is that somehow less desirable because my eyes weren't NATURALLY perfect? I take allergy shots. Is that somehow less desireable than toughing it out and taking benedryll and be blurry during the whole springtime? NO to both questions.

You and I chose to fix our problems with PROACTIVE help. You used the resources the good Lord gave you, willingly! And you know that only 40-60% of those who have the surgery actually keep all the weight off after five years...so it's still work. It's still tough..It's not easy...

You can hang around me at any time! Those people are ignorant and stupid..they wouldn't ask for help to get out of a mud puddle!

I'm on facebook and there is a giant group of us on there. contact me and I'll give you my contact name..We'd love to help and support you any time!
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Before Surgery: 214
Highest Weight: 240
Now: 125.6
Goal: 130
