I'm 26 months out and have seriousely started to regain weight!  I've heard many people complain that they experienced a bounce back of 10 lbs, but i'm at 15 and want to DIE!  It's my fault and I know it.  Anyone out there who can help me find my way back?  How do we lose weigh without the benefit of our tool?  They warned us that the benefits of the surgry would pass (we don't bypass the calories and our stomachs stretch) and here I am...

Maintaining weight loss is a real challenge.  But you do still have the benefit of your tool.  You just need to start using it again.  The only suggestion I have is to get back to basics.  Eat protein first, stop eating at the first sign of feeling full, no drinking with meals, drink at least 64 oz. of water daily.  Do the 5 day pouch test to help you get back on the right track.  Good Luck!

Thanks for your support!  I know how to do this...I just need to get my head back into it!  My only son leaves for college in a month all the way across the country and I'm using eating to deal with it!  It's a liffelong battle!

OK, here is what you do:

1)  Start writing down everything you eat, totalling the calories
2)  Keep your daily calorie total no more than oh...800 to 1000.  Make sure 50% of your calories are from protein.
3)  Do something like Couch-2-5K or walk 45 minutes every day.

Weigh yourself once a week.  Problem solved!

I'm 2 years out as of July 8th.  I've not lost any weight for a year.  My surgeon wants me to lose another 20 lbs. and I would like to lose 30.

Now is the time to get a grip on the weight gaining.  A lot of people do the 5 day pouch test.  Bariatriceating.com folks do the 3 day test.  Either of those procedures should get your pouch back to where it should be.  The tool will always be there, we just have to respect it.

Avoid the white flour, sugar and white rice.  Carbs are not our friend.  Someone said to write down what you eat.  OH has a program for recording your food.  I also like MyFitnessPal.com.   Get 80-100 grams of protein a day.

You can do this!!

I have to say that all of my weight loss happened in the first year too!  I lost 117 lbs (267 to 150!).  After the first year I fluctuated between 144 - 150.    I'm hoping I can deal with 10 lbs quickly, but I fear at more than 2 years out, it will be a struggle!  But then, for me, none of this was easy!

Go for 5 lbs. increments.  I got in a bad habit of snacking.  I can't eat much at mealtime, but had no trouble eating between meals.  Now, I plan my food for the day and spread it out but no more mindless eating or eating just because I like it.  Always try to have some protein with your snacks.  If you have an apple, have some cheese or peanut butter with it.

i am just over a year out - im' not even at goal yet - have identified a number of contributing physiological problems contributing to my weight gain/difficulties losing (even with RNY) which i am excited to be finally addressing so i do hope to reach goal w/i the next year - however i'm definitely leery of regaining so i'm paying a lot of attention to how much i eat and what....

when i think of back to basics i'm thinking dense protein first, that's really the most important factor to me to prevent overeating or eating the wrong foods.  that and cutting carbs (for me).  what i notice now is that while i can sometimes eat a "normal" sized meal, which scares me, if i get those dense proteins in first, i rarely eat nearly that much.  it's when i eat softer, moister foods i can pack more in; also the more refined carbs i eat, the hungrier i get.

other than that i'm focussed on getting these other health issues addressed so i can be more active more consistently.

i've been told and read many times that our pouches never stretch out all the way to a normal sized stomach.  it's more likely one's stoma will stretch first, that's the real danger.  i'd be willing to be if you go back to dense proteins at the beginning of your meal, and dont' drink with your meal (if you are), you will feel your pouch and fast.  it's very reassuring to me to do this.

we lose the malabsorption but the pouch is ours for life!

RNY 6/16/09 - Last weighed 10/27/2011 weighed 151 lost 52 pounds  66% toward personal goal  of 125, six pounds from unofficial unpretentious goal of 145lbs......basically very happy.   boo-rah, RNY!
