HI there,

I have never posted here before so sorry..but i am almost 2 years out. I have been successful in losing 100lbs which i am grateful for. I was 240 and my goal is 130lbs. I only reached my goal for a short period of time but can never keep it there. In fact, I am 10lbs over, ( i have gained a few and now weight 140lbs).. any one else gain some weight back this early out? what did u do? i know what i am doing wrong..I just need to get back on track. I have cheated a lot and there is no excuse. I had the RNY but I can tolerate ANY FOODS. It gets me in trouble. anyway any advice is appreciated even if i get yelled at..LOL!!

Maybe you aren't doing anything wrong. I think a lot of us go down to a very low weight that just isn't maintainable. I got down to 109 at one point but am very happy hovering around 115. Plus, I figure I've got about 10 lb. of extra skin so my 115 is really 105 and that's pretty darn thin even for someone as short as I am.

Self magazine has this calculator to calculate your "happy" weight -- a weight you can maintain and still be happy about but it's not so low that you are always depriving yourself. I like that concept.

I think our bodies settle, in the end, for the right weight for us.  Mine did, and I've been struggling to get it back down to where I was 5 years ago when I first lost all the weight, and then I settled in at 135 lbs, but thought I HAD to lose the extra 10.  I'm 5'7 and my weight is fine i finally realized.

If you really are sure you are not happy with the weight you are at and you really want to attempt to lose that weight, you have to look at what you might be consuming. If you can tolerate any foods, that doesn't mean you have to consume those foods. If you have a problem saying no to sweets, you might want to quit eating those for a while.

But bottom line, losing weight is all about taking in fewer calories than you burn. Keep track of what you are taking in and be HONEST about it. Do that for a while and then look at the list. What is giving you too much bang (calories) for your buck...Go back to your WLS basics in eating your protein first, fiber next and carbs (white carbs and bread) last...don't drink with your meals and maybe not after for 30 minutes..and get up and move more. Even alittle more will make a difference. Park further from walmart, walk to your coworker instead of picking up the phone..

I started at 240 before surgery. I got down to 117 for a minute at about a year out but my surgeon told me my goal was 125. I fluctuate between 126 and 130 (this morning I'm 128.6)

You should also look at our accountability threads. It works for me but you have to find what works for you. And keep trying. If nothing works...then you might be where your body is comfortable.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

I'm 2 years out as of July 8th and had RNY.  I started at about 243 and day of surgery was 238.  I lost about 70 lbs. in the first year but haven't lost any since.  I go up a few pounds and back down.  I feel so much better than before surgery, have way more energy and like how I look.  I'm off all meds except thyroid.  My clothing size is 12/14 which is a big improvement.  However, I know I need to lose more weight.  I'm still considered overweight according to the charts.

The first year I read every label, kept sugar to 7 grams or less and didn't eat any junk.  Sometimes sugar makes me sick and other times it doesn't.  Sounds like you know what you're doing wrong.

That first year or so the weight just comes off but after that we have to work at it just like anyone else.  I keep saying I'm going to do the South Beach diet but I keep putting it off.

Actually 140 is my goal weight and I'm 5'3" so maybe 140 is a good weight for you.

Good luck and keep posting here.

I just did the healthy weight calculator and I am not happy it says I need to lose alot more weight? What the F? I am now wondering why they call it happy weight I was pretty happy until I looked at that!  Wondering did anyone else look at this? It is saying I should be 120, I cant even imagine that weight.  I was really happy at 137-140.  My Dr goal was 150.  Just thought I would share my results, good luck, Raynetta

Those "healthy weight calculators" really don't work for us. Being morbidly obese for years adds weight to your skeleton. That's one reason why most surgeons' goals are higher than those ranges given by places like WW and Jenny.
