Pain Management
I am 2 1/2 years r n y post op and have lost 175 pounds. Feel fantastic, am even considering some plastics now. However, I have some issues with chronic pain, degeneration in my neck and spine from years of obesity and scoliosis. Arthritis in my right hip, knee and shoulder, serious "rather give birth" menstral pain, and occasional migraines. All of which I managed with ibuprophen prior to surgery. There are several schools of thought about that, and in desperation I have used advil or the like, along with food and pepcid. I am looking for a doc who won't freak out treating a gastric bypass patient with chronic pain issues... my r n y surgeon would no longer write pain meds four months after surgery, my internal medicine doc doesn't seem to understand absorption issues and my gyn refuses to help, he suggested I have endimetrial ablation, as if another surgical procedure will make it all better! Any other 'Old timers" have thoughts or a doc they like? Thanks
"serious "rather give birth" menstrual pain"
wow... I thought I was the only one. Ive just been planning ahead & treating w/ OTC IB. I use to use Aleve (which was GREAT) until I found out i had severe GERD & the Aleve was the main contributing cause after that I suffered & went to Vicodine - but i cant take that & drive. Now i just take a bunch of IBs & be done w/ with it.
All the Drs Ive had post op havent had an issue treating a GBS patient. I believe that is due to the fact that WLS is more common now so they are seeing more patients who've had it.
So you shouldnt have an issue finding a doc who'll treat you IRREGARDLESS of the GBS.
I dont even know why that would come in to play.
If your PCP isnt knowledgeable about malabsorption & the GYN refuses to help - dump them! Docs are like taxis in NYC - theirs plenty of them all over the place!
Maybe contacting your insu would help in the search - perhaps they can refer you to a specialist? My insu website has a PCP Finder (Dr search like 1-800-dentist), Maybe yours does to.
Im sorry you're experiencing all of this & hope you are able to gain some useful insight & encouragement through the replies to your post.
Good Luck I'll be for you
