(shh the subject we don't want to talk about)
Drinking,(when u never did before surgery)
I work in an endocrine office and have spoken to many pts. about my successful weight loss. I have encouraged many over the last
4 years. I'm still 120 down but, I was down to 150 down. I guess they call the addiction I now have ...addiciton transference.
Change 1 problem for another! I really never drank before. Maybe 1 drink every 2-3 months. But, I've talked to many weight loss survivors and hear much of the same problem. Meaning, I drink to much!
Meaning, I would love to talk to others that suffer from this problem.

Transfer addictions are quite common with WLS, actually..You might check the forum for that too...But get some help. It really does help. You'll find that food addictions respond to the 12 step program quite well.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!
Before Surgery: 214
Highest Weight: 240
Now: 125.6
Goal: 130

I enjoy a drink every now and again. Two a week on average probably. This is not a problem for me BUT I can see where a Food Addict who could no longer be addicted to food would move on to something else: alcohol, gambling (why is it never housework?), etc.
One mitigating factor would be the calories. I mean, if you keep track of calories one would think you could find something better than the calories in your ****tails.

Define "TOO MUCH".
Is that too much at one time & your tolerance level is low, so you get really drunk?
or is that too much as in too often?
I drink a lot - meaning a lot at one time AND often-ish. As such - drinking has contributed to my weight gain. Now I really dont drink "often" - so thats maybe 2-3x/month (whereas before i would have a drink every day!). Personally - i dont see the problem in that (being the former).
However, if you are feeling that your "1 drink every 2-3 months" is a "problem", perhaps you should examine the reasons for drinking. Consider the times when you are drinking. Is it socially, or after psycho days at work when you come home thinking "i need a drink"? If it is the latter, perhaps you should consider talking to a councilor.
I have to say - when i went back & re-read the "1 drink every 2-3 months" i thought that was no big deal (in comparason to my own drinking that is). I dont see that as a "problem" at all & think other ppl you're talking to may be putting too much on it causing you to double think your actions - ??
However - what's important is NOT what I say or think or what anyone else says or thinks. Whats important is what YOU think.
If you think you have a problem, you should seek professional assistance to nip it in the bud. :)

LAS VEGAS -- Some bariatric surgery patients may trade one type of addiction for another, according to a small study of patients who entered substance abuse programs after surgery.

One drink every 2-3 months is not in the least indicitave of a problem. No alcohol treatment program would consider drinking at that rate to show even the slightest hint of a problem, UNLESS the person was a recovering alcoholic.
Why on earth would you think such infrequent drinking is an addiction, or even a slight problem?
Strange, I personally know well over 150 WLS people, and not one of them has developed a drinking problem after their surgery.

You misread her post. She *used* to not drink much. (1-2 a month). Now she drinks too much (amount unspecified).
