Is it possible?  I had WLS in 2003 and now I am 261 lbs again.  Is it possible to lose weight with no more malabsorption.  My pouch still "works" but it empties too quickly... I don't know what to do??  HELP???

I don't know but was wondering the same thing.  I empty to fast also. wonder if anything but surgery will help us now?  I am not as far out as you are but worry I will regain the weight it scares the crap out of me. If anyone can help us please please respond to us .

Yup...You only malabsorb the nutrients (vitamins) now and not the fat or calories..I can tell you what to do though...back to basics. No drinking with meals, protein (dense protein) first and less white carbs and NO sugar..

You could even try the 5 day pouch test where you start out like just after surgery with liquids only..it's a way to reset the pouch and also to cleanse your system of the carbs that you have re-addicted to.

Or you could go to the surgeon and see if there is a mechanical problem with your pouch, usually caused by drinking after eating. But it's just as hard to lose it this time as before surgery...it's tough but you can do it.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

now that just sucks! Why couldnt they have invented a procedure that proportionately blocks fat & cal absorption!

then again - i suppose the whole purpose is to teach us to eat more healthy foods.

I get it though. Im eating lots of dense lean proteins & Im totally full!
Problem is, with being so full, i forget to drink & often cant drink anything for over an hour after i eat.

People lose weight without having surgery so of course you can lose it.

The real question is: can you keep it off. For that, you have to have satiety. That means really working the pouch. Protein first, no drinking for 45-60 min. after meals, etc. just as others said.

It will help if you eat lots of dense protein and minimize foods that are "slippery" (even if they are eaten with the protein) because that will keep the protein in your pouch longer.  For example, if you are going to have chicken for dinner, it is better to eat it with something like broccoli or carrots than something like green beans (which chew down into a slippery nothingness).  For the same reason, avoid eating high water content fruits with meals as well.

And no drinking for 30 ninutes after meals!
