By doing the EV of the 5DPT, I am trying to retrain my pouch (or schrink it) & retrain myself to recognise that "full" sensation & get back on the right kind of foods.
Whats the purpose of the 5DPT??
Even though i knew the answers to the following questions (or at least I thought I did), I still had to ask myself:
Have you lost control of your weight loss surgery tool?
Obviously, otherwise I wouldnt have put on 59 lbs
Does my pouch still work? Yes. I just abuse it...
Have I broken my pouch? I thought I had, but apparently not
Am I doomed to be a failure at this too? Heck no!!! I refuse to consider myself a failure. I just need to kick some more but! My own!
Can I lose the weight I've regained? This is probably the most impt ?? I believe i can! I am determined to lose the weight i regained & get back to my 165 (o 175 at the least).
Is the honeymoon period over? YES! I had 2 yrs of honeymooning & its time to get back to work.
The 5DPT website talks a lot about experiencing that feeling of "fullness" & how some of us dont like that feeling. Therefore we resort to snacking & eating "slider foods". Kaye Bailey notes "lots of times I hear, "But I don't like that uncomfortable tight feeling of solid protein in my pouch." But the very purpose of the pouch is to signal fullness, which often comes by way of slight discomfort when we are eating in compliance with our bariatric owner's manual.
The slider foods will never ever signal fullness.
I think the trick here (at least for me) is portion control & learning to stop eating PRIOR TO experiencing that painful & sometimes gut wrenching "discomfort she's referring to.
Kaye goes on to note the reson slider foods are so dangerous is because they "slide right through the stoma into the jejunum. My first test of the slider foods was graham crackers and coffee for my after work snack."
Lets take a second to visualize that.. grahman crackers & coffee mixed together form nothing but a carby sludge.
"What resulted was an easily absorbed slurry that my jejunum sucked up like a sponge - it didn't have to do any work to absorb this simple carbohydrate slurry. Of course, weight gain resulted.
Another popular slider food is pretzels. Traditional dieters are encouraged to eat pretzels or popcorn - fat free and fiber, right? But that doesn't work so well for WLS. Giving our re-routed bodies these simple carbs are dangerous because our bodies have spent years perfect the art of fat storage.
Other examples of slider foods include simple carbs ie: cheese nip crackers, popcorn, mashed potatoes, ice cream, yogurt, etc.
physically & emotionally - im so down & i dont know why.
i worked my butt off today afterwork.
i got in my 20 mins on the treadmill, then went & did an hour of upper body weight training.
im hecka tired & my sholders & arms are killing me. i wasnt going to come on here & about it. nor was i going to toot my own horn singing ooohhhh i did this & that today!! all happy & cheery like.
i did at least want to come on & give a decent status update & right now, thats pretty much how im feeling.
