10 Years Out...can't seem to lose pregnancy weight!

I am 10 years out of RNY (distal) and I have had little problem maintaining my weight. I have fluctuated the usual 10 pounds, and even lost down to my lowest weight of 242 (I started at 430) right before conceiving my daughter.

Now, 2 years after giving birth, I am back up to my delivery weight (272). I really want to drop at least 20, but preferably 30 pounds. I have tried tracking my food, exercising more, and even changing the structure of my diet, but that scale doesn't budge!

Yesterday, I went back to the hospital for my yearly bloodwork and when I expressed my concerns, they squeezed me in to see the nutritionist and she said that my vitamin defiiciencies were most likely at fault. She said that when our bodies are deficient, it slows our metabolism down.

Does this apply to anyone else?

They did put me on bariatric supplements. These weren't even in existence when I had surgery. I was sent home with Flintstones and a calcium supplement and a pat on the back for good luck!

OMG! Me too.  9 years out last week.  I also was sent home with Flintstones and calcium and "see around".  I found the bariatric supplemnts at GastricBypassSuplements.com.  Started them last month.  I never reached goal, lowest weight was 204, today 230.  How do we fix this? I'm desperate and miserable. I cn't stand myself right now!  Anyone?

I got more results in yesterday...I am B1 (Thiamin) deficient as well. They're writing prescriptions for B-12 injections once a month, thiamin for 2 months, maybe D (results aren't back yet) and Iron. I have been instructed to take Vitamin C with the Iron to help increase absorbtion.

I hope the nutritionist is right that the weight will correct itself (if I am eating right, of course!) when these deficiencies improve! I will continue checking in. :)

Please don't get discouraged. If you can get someone to run a nutritional panel (bloodwork), you should do it so that you will know what's going on and what you need to correct. For example, last year my thiamin was just fine.

Good luck and keep us posted!

If you had your surgery that far out, you may not have had the techniques they use now. So maybe you need a revision. A friend of mine had a lapband put around her pouch and she was finally able to make it to goal and even maintain that. I can't remember how long ago she had the bypass but it was at least 10 years ago.

They did tell me that they make smaller pouches now, but I am not as concerned about losing down to a goal as I am getting healthy. I wouldn't consider a revision unless I had a severe regain. I have read, however, that people have had banding done over the bypass to finish losing. Thanks for sharing that. I have never known anyone who's done that personally.

Have your thyroid levels checked, not just TSH but also free T3, free T4, and TPO antibodies along with Vitamin D and ferritin levels. Check out a website called stopthethyroidmadness.com and see if anything applies to you. Hope you figure things out.
