5 Day Pouch Test (?)
I posted this on the main forum but thought I'd post here too..
Have any of you done this? I haven't been on this site in a while. I am almost 5 years out and have put on a good bit of weight. It really started to come on a lot when I was put on lexapro. I am no longer on it but I need to drop some lbs. I saw on here a while ago about the 5 day pocu test and I want to commit to it. Does it work? Do you just feel awful? In the liquid days can you use canned soups? I need advice!

I did the test last year and it does work. My mom did it with me and she is not a gastric bypass patient. It helps you get back on track. I didn't feel awful. I had a little headache from not eating carbs that caused me to gain weight but it doesn't last long. The site recommends eating an orange with the headache. My mom did that twice and it worked for her.
For the liquid days, I ate cream soups ( I love Campbell's soup at hand) or broth. That's what it says you can have. I just followed the plan and ate exactly what i says to eat. I didn't
The plateau buster also works. I did that with my first plateau and it's just about all protein.
Maybe try the pouch diet then the plateau buster.
Good luck with getting back on track!!

Hi, I`m Pam and haven`t been on here in a couple of years. I am 3 1/2 yrs. out from Gastric Bypass. I started out at 237 and lost down to 127 for a very few weeks then leveled off at 137 for 2 yrs. Now I`m at 150 and want to get back down to around 140. I am wondering what the 5 day pouch test is? I`ve never heard of it. Can anyone explain it to me please? I`ve been reading some posts and am also having trouble with the carb thing. Love them and of course the more you eat the more you want. I try to eat my proteins first and then the carbs. I stay pretty busy. We are building a house all by ourselves so I get in some exercise but for about 2 months now I `ve been having a time with my blood pressure being up and I had been on bp meds. before surgery but just a very mild dose. Now it`s come back plus my thyroid which I`ve been on meds. for 20 yrs now had to be upped and then upped again and they are now checking all my hormones and my cortisol levels. Has anybody had any of these problems? I`m wondering if this has anything to do with my surgery somehow.
I have a friend who does the 5DPT every quarter. I believe she uses it as a system cleanser.
As i stated in another reply, I did the 5DPT for about 2 weeks. I did "days 1 & 2" for 4 days, then moved on to 2 days of "day 3" & so on. I dont recall exactly how much i lost, but im thinking ir was about 10lbs. its not the "recommended" route - but you can EASILY jump start your weight loss w/ the 5DPT & achieve your goal.
Good luck!!

the 5DPT totally worked for me. It was hecka hard during the first 2 days. But it got easier & i repeated days 1 & 2. It really got me back in touch w/ my pouch. So yes, it works.
The 5DPT is a great way to jump start your matabolism & kick the carb addiction. I did it for 2 weeks & had great results. however - the 5DPT ppl dont recommend doing that.
If you are doing it now, i know it the first couple of days feel like torture - but you can do it!!!
Stay active, track your your intake (meals & liquids) & exercise!!!
You can do it.

I just realized that my extended version of the 5DPT would be a great kick off to my 6wk Atkins program. My plan is to do the atkins for 6 wks. in addition to that, get in at least 20-30mins/day of cardio (increasing the time every week or so) + weight training + yoga 1x/wk.
for me, its all about starting off slow & doing something easy - committing to something for just 6 weeks.
after that - i'll revise the program & committ to another 6 weeks.
In the mean time - Im gonna start the 5DPT today!
